Description
This is a continuation of previous Boxes of the Month. We have some openings so are posting to fill them. Please submit your request to be part of this ring with mailing address, phone number, and alternate email. Read the guidelines below. This is a year committment. I try to keep only one box in each state so be sure your address is included! HOWEVER, this past year we had 2 states with two boxes in them. It had to be that way to fill the ring. So even if the person who is currently doing it in your state is returning, if you are interested, be sure to submit your name, especially if you live in another part of the state. If the below directions aren't clear, or if you have questions, please message me.
Here is how it works.
1. Carve a stamp of your choice.
2. Make a journal with a lot of pages. It'll be traveling for a year.
3. Make a postal envelope.
4. Pick a spot in your area that you can plant in for at least a year, changing the boxes monthly. Choose a spot as safe as possible from mugglers. The box here in Denver is actually planted in her front yard under a bush so she can keep an eye on it.
5. List your box in the ring. In the ring, it's a postal.
6. Then....list as a traditional box for one month. The person here in Denver uses this: Box of the Month January 2016: name of box. You could put the city where planted in the name if you so choose.
7. On the 27th of each month, pull the box, retire it as a traditional box, and mail it to the person below you.
8. When the new box arrives at your home, plant it using the system above, changing the month to February and listing the carver in the clue. Be sure to record this box as a postal find in the tracker for yourself.
9. After pulling the box and while waiting for the next one to arrive some people choose to plant an "in-between" box. This is a simple carve that's there for no more than a week. This year the people here in Denver planted a series called Celtic Under the Sea carved by another boxer and donated for the cause. It's only active for one week. Some people don't do anything. There's no box there until the next one arrives. Either way is good.
10. If possible, please keep your carve at 3 X 5 or smaller. Some of the boxes are hidden in urban areas. Anything bigger makes it very difficult to hide in the chosen spot. Some of you that are returning to the ring may already have your carves complete. Please don't re-carve if your stamp is finished and bigger than this. We'll make every stamp work as it is. Same thing goes for the log book. Some people use plastic containers, some pouches. Everything needs to easily fit inside.
The ring begins January 1 by each individual planting their own carve. For those returning who have an in-between box, you have until the 5th to plant your 2016 box. That gives the folks in your area time to get that additional box. The mailing begins on January 27.
