Description

Box ON! 2008 - Guelph
September 20, 2008
Riverside Park
10:30 am – 4:00 pm

Come to Box ON!, Ontario’s letterboxing event. This year it will be held in Guelph, about an hour west of Toronto. Guelph is known as the Royal City, and the theme for this year’s event is Royalty.

A note to our American friends: you don't need a passport to cross into Canada by car. We're less than two hours from the Peace Bridge (Fort Erie/Buffalo) and the Rainbow Bridge (Niagara Falls).

For directions to the park, AQmail me.
Upon entering the park by the Woolwich (main) entrance, follow the park road for about a minute until you see the round pavilion with the green roof (known as The Small Picnic Pavilion). That's us! Hang a right as soon as you can and park nearby. There is plenty of other parking in the park, and it's never too far to walk.

Schedule of Events:

10:30 - Registration, Event Stamps, Exchanges, etc.
11:15 - Cootie workshop/etiquette lessons for children attending the event; we'll also have carving materials available for anyone who's never tried it before
12:00 - Potluck lunch
3:30 - Group photo and draw for door prize basket

There will be three series of boxes within walking distance:
-one designed for small children and their parents
-one short walk within the park
-one longer hike just beyond the borders of the park.

Clue packages will be available at the pavilion. There will also be a number of other goodies for those who look closely.

In addition, there will be brain-puzzle boxes planted throughout the city on the Royal theme. Clues for these boxes will be posted on AQ before the event. Plus, there are over 50 boxes in Guelph already!

Please bring something to share for lunch.

There is no registration fee, but a donation of $5 a party to cover the pavilion rental is respectfully requested. There will also be a "Loonie for a Loonie" stamp.

There are three ecoscavenger boxes in Guelph: In Flanders Fields, Sculpture Park, and Bandstand. Ordinarily you would only be able to print off the stamp with a code, but Lone R will have all three stamps on hand for those who complete the legwork for these letterboxes.

In addition, Lone R has created a virtual letterbox in honour of the event: http://www.atlasquest.com/boxes/clue/index.html?gBoxId=81165 She will have the stamp available at the event for everyone who figures it out.
