Description

"Nestled in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains just north of Statesville, NC, Love Valley is a town all its own, away from the hustle of the city life. There, surprisingly you will find the leisurely atmosphere of an old western community. Love Valley's downtown invites visitors to ride into town on the dirt road, hitch their horses to the hitching rails, stroll along the boardwalk...."

If you have not been to Love Valley before (or even if you have), and you like the idea of a quaint, rustic, small tiny two block town, then this could be the event for you. With miles of trails, and some beautiful views, there will be no shortage of things to fill the time between drive-bys, short walks, long hikes, smooth terrain, rocky, mountain terrain, and some things you may have only seen in movies.

Love Valley is a quaint, rustic town. There are no hotels, per say, only cabins and rooms. If you would prefer a traditional hotel, Statesville is about twenty minutes away. The people in Love Valley are friendly, and here are some lodging suggestions.

Daisy's 336-708-1466
Shared bathrooms (2) and common area, no televisions. Rates are per night for two nights. Daisy tries to keep coffee going, but someone is welcome to bring an extra coffee maker. No kitchen.
Room 1 -- Downstairs, queen bed & futon. $55 for 2 people, $65 for 3, $75 for 4.
Room 2 -- Upstairs, 2 double beds, $55 for 2 people, $65 for 3, $75 for 4.
Room 3 -- Upstairs, balcony, one bed. $35 + $10 pp up to 3 (couch).
Tents -- Can set up in the yard for $10 per person.
Campers -- $45 per hookup for 2 people + $10 per additional person.
Horses (if you have a horse and decide to bring it) -- $15 for stall, $10 for paddock

Miss Kitty's 704-592-4885 or 828-308-7628
We have not seen inside of this building. The gentleman on the telephone was very friendly, so there is that.
Rooms are $55 to $120 plus.
The largest room can fit three couples (or six people) and has a kitchen.
All rooms have refrigerators.
Horses welcome.

Blacksmith's Cove Cabins 704-592-4843, 704-662-9261, 704-902-2721 (Ask for Teena or Charles.)
Large Cabin, two bedrooms, sleeps four. $350 for the weekend includes 4 horse barn.
-The large cabin also has a full sized sofa and love seat. I am not sure if they would allow two more people in there, but it could help cut the costs per person.

Eagles Nest Cabin 704-592-2484
This is a short walk away from town if you want a touch more seclusion. The price for the entire weekend is $250 for three people or $300 for four people. Additionally, the owner might allow you to check in Thursday evening for no additional charge if you want to get a head start on the weekend and relax for an extra day. You can view this cabin at www.lovevalleycabin.com/new-cabin.php

//REMINDER:// Please let me know where you are staying so that I can update the list. If you want to have an area where most stay, Daisy's would make a great common area with bedrooms in the house, tent camping outside, and RV spots. The Blacksmith's cabins are across the street from Daisy's, though nothing listed is very far from the other.

Now...would anybody like to send a box to plant? ;-)

Sep 13, 2016: Parking
The question of parking and distance has been posed, so this is a quick note to tell you that there is parking in the area where we will be. When I say that Love Valley is a small town, I mean small. You may be surprised -- in a good way! Nothing is far from anything (until you head out on the trails). Between local letterboxers parking at the lots and travelers parking at their accommodations, there should be enough room to park, and you should not have to walk far. Hopefully that answers your parking questions. :-)

Sep 22, 2016: Notes
What a neat place Love Valley is! We have been planting this week and have a good combination of easy boxes right in and around town and hikes that will take you on some rustic trails. What adventures are ahead for all of us!

We will be setting up our private event area at Silver Spur Friday at 4:00 PM if anybody will be there and is willing to help.

As a heads up, there is one hike that is on the tough side and will take hours. Love Valley would like folks choosing to take this hike to do it first on Saturday morning only. On this hike, you will cross a shallow Creek. If you want to bring waterproof boots, feel free.

Please continue to let me know where you will be staying so that I can add it to the list. We are only.one week away!

Sep 29, 2016: Did I Miss Anything?
Greetings, Boxers! Tomorrow is the day, and I am sending you a few more details. If you have any questions, please ask.

When you get to Love Valley, there is a small parking area at the corner of Tori Pass and Henry Martin Trail. If you are a day tripper, then you can park there. Car pooling is great if you are local. If you are staying in Love Valley, and there is parking at your place of lodging, please park at that place. There is some parking behind Silver Spur, yet that is also restaurant parking, so let us not use it unless we have to.

While cellular service is spotty, you may want to be able to contact us at some point if you need a ride or get lost on the Creek Trail. Dawnmarie's number is 704-307-9502.

Super Hedge Hoggie is planning to arrive around noon on Friday and would appreciate any help erecting her tent at Miss Daisy's.

Clues will be available starting between 1:00 and 2:00 PM on Friday. Check-in will be at the Love Valley Cabin or at the Silver Spur, depending on what time you arrive.

We will be setting up an area to be our home base for Saturday on Friday at 4:00 PM. If you are around and can help, then please do. We will also leave the raffle items displayed at the Silver Spur.

For anyone interested, there is a church service at 11:00 on Sunday.

Thank you to those who have noted what you will bring for the pot luck. If you would like to bring a chair for Friday dinner or Saturday s'mores, that might be a good idea. By the way, would anybody like to bring the s'mores supplies? If not, we can get them.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend and hope that you all have safe and easy travels!

Richard, Dawnmarie, and Hugo (RDHG)
