Description

Once again, Camp Sertoma will be hosting the Susquehanna Sojourn! Come see the muddy waters of the Susquehanna and enjoy some letterboxing! Many event-day-only boxes will be available and the surrounding communities offer a wide range of letterboxing opportunities! We are planning a similar schedule as in past years, with dinner and night boxing to follow the main event.

Camp Sertoma is a non-profit summer camp run by the Boys and Girls' Club of Binghamton. There are indoor facilities as well as trails for letterboxing on a private 110 acres. You'll even get to visit a replica longhouse!

Because of the rental rate for Camp Sertoma, we ask that you please consider making a contribution that can be given to the Camp. We are also planning a raffle, so be prepared for the chance to win some goodies!

The event will be a potluck. There are refrigerators, freezers, stoves, a microwave, and outlets available. We'll also need tableware and drinks.

Overnight Accommodations at Camp:
For a small donation, you are welcome to stay overnight at Camp Sertoma on Friday and/or Saturday night. The options include: tenting on the fields, sleeping in the council ring next to the camp fire, sleeping in the dining hall (the use of an air mattress is recommended), and sleeping in one of the program-area cabins (on the floor, air mattress recommended). The showers are typical camp showers--flip flops are recommended! The kitchen would be available for your use (fridge, microwave, stove), but clean-up would be on your own. :)

Cost: $5/person/night for all overnight options. Cash or checks made payable to Camp Sertoma/ Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton will be accepted; please pay Turtle Song right at the event.
If you would like to stay overnight at Camp Sertoma, please let Turtle Song know so that she can reserve your choice of accommodations. If you are coming Friday evening, she'll also need to be there to let you in. :)

Directions:
From the Albany area: I88 West until it joins with I-81 S, I-81S to exit 2 Route 17E), Route 17E to exit 76 (Haskins/Foley Rd). Right on Haskins, immediate left onto Johnson, less than a mile on the right is Camp Sertoma. Park in the big field.

From Syracuse: I-81 S to exit 2 (Route 17East), Route 17E to exit 76 (Haskins/Foley Rd). Right on Haskins, immediate left onto Johnson, less than a mile on the right is Camp Sertoma. Park in the big field.

From Allentown: I-81 N to exit 2E (Route 17East), Route 17E to exit 76 (Haskins/Foley Rd). Right on Haskins, immediate left onto Johnson, less than a mile on the right is Camp Sertoma. Park in the big field.

For those of you who have not come to a Susquehanna Sojourn event before, this is a unique setting. We have the entire 110 acres of the hills of Camp Sertoma all to ourselves, as well as the beautiful, huge dining hall to spread out in. There are several boxing trails, so you can take one or all. They all loop back to the dining hall where you can grab some respite, exchange with others and hit the trails again! Lunch is about the middle of the day, and if you are within hearing of the camp loudspeaker, we'll let you know when everyone is returning to have lunch.

May 10, 2014: Susquehanna Sojourn--4 weeks away!
Hello, Sojourners!
As we get closer to our event, we just wanted to send out a few reminders.

If you're interested in staying over at Camp Sertoma Friday and/or Saturday night and haven't already contacted me, I think we're down to just tenting and main event room spaces. Please let me know if you want to reserve a space.

We will be holding a raffle to benefit Camp Sertoma; if you'd like to contribute something, please let us know. Thanks!

If you haven't already signed up for the potluck, please read through the list and see what you might add! We could use condiments and hot dog rolls; I also thought PB&J, cold cuts, and bread/rolls might be good options. Sides, snacks, and desserts are always good, too!

Susquehanna Sojourn and Susquehanna at Night t-shirt orders are due next Sunday (5/18). The price is $12 ($14 for 2XL). If you're interested in ordering a shirt and haven't already done so, please contact me with the quantity and shirt size/s. Check the links below for images:

I think that's it! We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Happy Mothers' Day to all letterboxing moms!

May 31, 2014: Coming Soon!
We hope that you are looking forward to Susquehanna Sojourn, coming in 7 days! We are excited to celebrate our 7th year, on June 7th (which is a Saturday, the 7th day of the week). Will you be able to complete all 7 sets of stamps this year? Enjoy some 7 layer salad! If you enter our raffle, perhaps you'll win some 7-Up to enjoy while you read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." If you still need help guessing the theme, feel free to contact us. :-)

A few things:

If you haven't signed up for the potluck yet, please do so.

You'll want to bring bug spray or tick repellant (I found a tick crawling on my leg after planting last weekend).

If you're staying for night boxing, don't forget a flashlight! (and maybe long pants, in case it gets cool)

For our overnight guests, checks should be made payable to "Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton / Camp Sertoma." (boy, that's a mouthful!) Or just bring cash and give it to Turtle Song.

We are excited to see you next weekend!

Jun 2, 2014: Less than a week!
I forgot to mention... please bring a compass with you, or plan to box with a buddy who is bringing a compass. Some of the boxes will be very challenging to find without one.

The current weather forecast for Saturday is predicting mostly cloudy weather with a 10% chance of rain, high around 77 degrees. Hopefully that forecast will hold!

See you soon!

Jun 9, 2014: Thank you!
Hello, Sojourners!

We had a wonderful time visiting with you all and we hope you enjoyed the day!

If you stayed for nightboxing, please let us know what you thought of this year’s set-up with two trails. We’d love to have your feedback for when we plan next year’s event.

A few boxes had not been listed before today. (That’s my fault, I’m sorry! -Eiryn) Here are their listings:
The Weirwood Tree (bonus box) http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=239588

Counting by 7s (hollow book) http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=239589

As the Susquehanna Sojourn gets larger every year, it takes more and more people to pull it off, so we wanted to take the time to express our gratitude to the following letterboxers for their assistance.

To Bopp, our quiet worker bee: thank you for all of the behind-the-scenes work you did and for ensuring that everything got recycled!

To Anne of Green Gables’ husband: thank you for playing EMT!

To Sahalie, MomLovesWine, Chickee, Snowbaby, and RiverKat: thank you for contributing items to the raffle!

To Firebreathing Dragonfly: thank you for building our campfire!

To Snowbaby: thank you for bringing S’mores fixings for the campfire!

To Lotus, Celtic Cat, Leafcutters, Anne of Green Gables, Don’t Panic, BanjoMan, Cheval, RiverKat, Khameleon, and Sahalie: thank you for pulling the glowing eggs, stamps, and tacks!

To Banqchef58, Viena, and Xalmaren: thank you for finding the elusive stamp. It’s good to have “la” back in the scale!

To all of our carvers: thank you for sharing your talents and time with us! We will make arrangements with you to return your stamps.

To anyone we missed or for anyone who helped out in an unseen way: we truly appreciate all you do!

To everyone: thank you for coming, for bringing items for the potluck, and for contributing to our raffle/donations for Camp Sertoma. Thank you for your generosity! Our campers thank you, also!
