Description
2013's Bed & Boxing hasn't happened yet and we're already working on next year's!+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are not one of the first 60 signups, you will be put on a waiting list and will move up according to your signup as people cancel. If you don't see your name on the first 60, there isn't room for you unless someone cancels. Only come to the event if your name appears in the first 60. We hate to limit people at an event but that's the reality as far as space concerns at the resort.
Also - if you ARE one of the first 60 and cannot make it, please remove your name out of consideration to others on the waiting list.
We plan on returning to this facility for 2015's Bed & Boxing so if you don't get in this year, hopefully you will in 2015. Thanks for understanding.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Beautiful Lake George will be our location for 2014. While this resort is not ON the lake, it is very close and offers more than we could ask for in amenities! 2 bedroom, nicely-appointed Cabins (8 only - first come; first served - DO NOT CALL YET) and Suite Rooms (15) nestled among the pines, a heated pool, covered picnic area, free WiFi, horseshoe pit, shuffleboard, basketball court and a firepit area!
The resort is called Adirondack Diamond Point Lodge. See the link to their website at the bottom of this message.
There are 2 types of accomodations:
* - $290 for 2 nights (plus taxes) - 2 bedroom cabins that offer equipped kitchen, screened in porch, living room area. 2 couples could split this cabin and pay only $145 plus taxes for the weekend for 2
* - $198 for 2 nights (plus taxes) - suite that is an oversized motel room for 2 people
We are presently working with the owners on the additional costs for a breakfast buffet for both mornings and a Saturday night BBQ on site. More details and pricing to come as we get closer.
Sign up now so you don't miss out - as you can see, space is limited!
A Pinecone Adventure
Oct 2, 2013: Expanded attendance
Hi there,
Just spoke to the owner of the resort and we can up the total from 50 to 60. I will contact you when you to make your reservation.
To fit all of us, if you ask for a cabin, either have another couple with you from the first 60 list or the owners will assign another couple at random.
We need to use all of the 2 bedroom cabins plus the 15 suite rooms that hold 2 people in order to maximize our numbers to fit the most people.
For those of you in the greater Albany area and cannot make the event, I am working on a Friday night get together somewhere near the resort for those that want to meet with those of the 60 that want to attend. Stay tuned for details. I'll also have clue packets for the new boxes planted for the event to distribute to all.
Thanks for your support and to these locals who will carve and plant for us.

Nov 17, 2013: Important Info - time to register for B & B!!!!
Hi Gang,
It's time to register with Adirondack Diamond Point Lodge for October 17 to 19, 2014 Bed & Boxing. This is a long email but please read carefully and follow directions to ensure your reservation is complete:
Go to the website: http://www.adirondackdiamondpointlodge.com/
Then click the "Contact Us" tab where you will find an email form to fill out.
Fill out the following info:
Name, Address, Email, Phone number, Dates of Arrival and Departure, Number in Party - adults and children.
Under "How may we help you" fill in
1) Mark Pepe's Pinecone Adventures Weekend
2) Whether you want an Suite Room (like a Motel Room) or a 2 Bedroom Cabin.
If you choose a 2 bedroom cabin and want to room with someone else on the list (DO NOT CHOOSE SOMEONE ON THE WAITING LIST on the Event Page) make your reservations for 4 people using both bedrooms. Your charge card will be charged for the total of 4 people and you will have to collect the money from the other couple. The resort doesn't want to worry about which people are rooming together so it's best for one couple to make the reservations for the entire cabin if you and someone else are sharing it.
If you are only one couple, note that you need only 1 bedroom on the reservation form in the 2 bedroom cabin and you will be assigned at random another couple to share your cabin.
Suite Room have a seperate bedroom with a queen or double bed, living room with bunk beds or futon.
Prices are:
2 Adults in a Suite Room @ $198 total ($99 per night for 2) plus tax for both nights for 2 people.
2 Adults in a 2 BR cabin using 1 bedroom @ $149 total plus tax for both nights for both people. The second set of 2 adults would pay $149 total for both nights as well.
Meals are additional at $60 per person for the weekend for Adults
Meals are are additional at $40 per person for the weekend for Children
Make sure you number of Adults and Children is correct on the reservation form since that number will be how you are charged for your food!
Meals are per person:
2 buffet breakfasts (Saturday and Sunday mornings) and 1 buffet Barbeque on Saturday night.
These will be hearty meals. The owner is a chef so expect a nice spread. I have worked with him as to what the meals include and I think you will be happy with the choices. We've made allowances for vegetarians. If you have other food allergies or concerns, please note them in the form as well.
After sending the email, the resort will call you (that's why the phone number is important) to get your charge card for a $100 deposit in February. Balance will be due 30 days before the event - September.
There is a lot of interest for those locals who want to attend something with us and those not staying on the property are not allowed on the resort. We want to get the weekend off to a big start so I have contacted the people who run the Mohican double decker tour boat that cruises on Lake George. We can go on a night cruise the Friday night of the event. We board at 6:30 and sail from 7 to 9pm. Price includes a DJ (same price without the DJ), captain narration of important sites and history, and we have a Chicken Picnic Buffet on board:
Chicken Picnic Buffet
Southern Fried Chicken
Tossed Salad
Cole Slaw & Potato Salad
Macaroni & Cheese, Rolls w/ Butter
Baked Apple Dumpling
Here's the website link: http://www.lakegeorgesteamboat.com/
Price is $30 per person with tip included. We need a minimum of 80 people. Please email me if you are going to attend and the number in your party. We can't do this without the 80 people and the resort does not allow people not staying there to visit - so we thought this was the perfect place for locals to meet and exchange and plan to hike with various attendees for the weekend.
So let's get the ball rolling and get those reservations in via the instructions above. The owner told me if we fill up the resort; then he will consider opening up another property nearby for those on the waiting list but he wants to fill this resort first.
One more thing - please email me once you have sent your reservation on the website so I can keep track of those attending and how many in your party.
This will take a lot of planning but I'm sure it will be a great event. We've done these a time or two and how can you miss with the resort and the location?
Contact me with any questions -
Thanks very much!
Mark

Jan 14, 2014: Bed & Boxing - Lake George
Hi folks,
I just heard from Mike at the Adirondack Lodge. He said he has contacted all of you that have made a reservation via his website to obtain a deposit from you.
If you didn't hear from him, your email didn't go through and you'll need to call him at the phone number on his website. The link is on the Event home page: http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gEventId=3009.
Thanks,
Mark
Jan 28, 2014: Boat ride Friday night of Bed & Boxing
Hi Gang,
If you haven't emailed me and want to attend the Friday night boat ride and chicken barbeque, please do so. I need 80 people minimum. Some of the local boxers not staying with us have asked for a venue where they can socialize, exchange, etc.
Cost is $30 per person for boat ride and supper. Check out the event page for futher details. Don't email me if you have already.
If we don't meet the 80 person minimum, I'll have to find another venue.
Thanks.
Feb 21, 2014: Bed & Boxing - Lake George
Hi folks,
I need a volunteer to carve the event stamp. I'm hoping a New Yorker will volunteer as we like to feature different carvers at each of these events.
You would have to send me the image for approval; then a black and white jpeg so I can have the event patch made.
Email me if you are interested.
Thanks,
Mark
Aug 21, 2014: Bed & Boxing News!
Hi gang,
We're edging closer to the weekend and I wanted to share some exciting news.
We have a venue for our Friday night meal. While the paddleboat ride did not work (not enough people for the minimum) we have spoken to Mike at the Adirondack Lodge and he will be hosting the Friday night get together (good news.)
Bad news is that this meal and all our paid meals (2 breakfasts and Saturday night BBQ) will have to be held in 2 shifts due to the number of people (I guess that's a good thing). The restaurant is a few steps from the Lodge so it's a 2 minute walk according to Mike.
When you check in, you will be given tickets for each meal and what seating and time it will be. I know this isn't the ideal situation but it's the only way to have everyone enjoy their food and guarantee a seat.
Friday night's new meal is also open to outside/local boxers not staying with us for the weekend.
Menu - Italian Buffet:
Ziti, Eggplant Parm, Chicken Parm, Salad, Dinner Rolls, Coffee, Water, Soda, Iced Tea
Price - Adults @ $22 each; Children 13 and younger @ $15 each. These prices include the 2 sales taxes and gratuities.
You will be asked if you are going when you check in at the resort and the proper amount will be charged to your room. If you are not going, please tell them.
Also, those guests from the area not staying with us will have to pay at the door. Not sure what seating you will make yet but we'll work that out after we return from Dartmoor.
Please, if you plan to go, sign up on the Friday Night event that I will post on AQ.
And see you all soon. More info to come as we get closer!

Oct 9, 2014: Bed & Boxing - Lake George
Hi gang,
We're about a week away from the event. Hope you are ready!
I spoke to Mike at the Lodge last night. He wants to point out that this is a rustic lodge and not a conference center. He won't have the amenities like a copier for our use, etc.
Location for the meals might change, I'll know more early next week. Again, due to the size of the group, we may have to eat in shifts. Please be understanding and don't heckle Mike. He is doing his best to provide extra services like food so please be understanding. i know you all will. I explained we are hikers and we'll be fine.
I'll be in touch next week. Bring your own clues, the sunshine and remove your name off the list if you've already cancelled with the Lodge! No more attendees will be allowed.
Thanks,
Mark
Oct 12, 2014: Some important news for BED & BOXING
Here are some important details for this upcoming weekend:
1. All meals will take place offsite. There are negotiations ongoing and Mike at the Lodge has a place but we don't want to name the place until it's official.
Meals will be in 2 shifts:
Breakfast both mornings - 8 to 9 and 9 to 10
Friday night buffet (limited to 40 people - 37 signed up already on separate event listing) 5 to 6:30 and 6:30 to 7:30
Saturday night buffet - same as Friday night - 5 to 6:30 and 6:30 to 7:30.
Seatings will be preassigned and random with those rooming together at the same seating schedule. If you are booked for the first seating for 1 meal; you will be booked for the early seating for the whole weekend. You will be given meal tickets with times on checkin and those will be turned into the restaurant for each meal.
Since most of the signed up people for the additionally priced Friday Night Buffet are going, the easiest way for Mike to charge that additional amount is to charge everyone that additional charge. We tried to sort out by the signup list on AQ who was signed up but without knowing all of your real names, it was difficult. So the easiest way was to charge everyone.
ON CHECKIN, please tell them if you are NOT eating at the Friday night buffet and they will credit your account $22 per adult and $13 per child. BE SURE TO MENTION THIS ON CHECKIN as that is when your final payment is due; less the deposit the you made sometime earlier this year.
As far as the temps, nights are cold. Like all good letterboxers, we assume you will pack clothes for all types of weather and in layers. Mike said all cabins and rooms are heated but the heat is not like in a home Please bring clothing suitable for a cooler room so no one is left unprepared.
Also, we have permission to plant boxes on the premises of the Lodge. They have to be removed when we leave. Write 1 copy of your clues and leave in a central location to be determined somewhere in the Commuity Room, which is a place with limited seating, pool table, etc.
I have 20 lined books that I will bring and leave in the community room so you can copy down clues that are left for boxes. DO NOT REMOVE THE ORIGINAL CLUE SHEET - write down the clues in the lined book provided. Please take one book per group so everyone has a book to record their clues.
We are allowed to bring our own liquor on premises to enjoy for the weekend. Please remain respectful of others and keep in mind that their are some families attending with younger children.
There are 6 firepits throughout the property that I plan to use. We will have to start them on our own and hopefully we can all fit around a few of them. Mike has provided a truckload of wood which is something we should provide ourselves. He's doing all he can to allow us to have a good experience (and ensure we come back next year.)
If all goes well (as I expect it will) the Lodge will be taking reservations for next years B & B here at a weekend to be determined; probably the first weekend in October of 2015. Again, deposits won't be charged until later next year as they were this year. You will have to register yourselves, not done automatic but more about that during the weekend.
Bring your own clues, plant a box or two, bring warm clothes and that great lettrboxing attitude that we always see at these events. Travel safely.
There will be a separate email announcing the restaurant location tomorrow or Tuesday.
Thanks,
Mark
Oct 14, 2014: Bed & Boxing - Lake George
Hi gang,
Guess who? This should be the last time you'll hear from me until you see us at the event! Sue & I are heading up on Thursday morning so we might be unavailable that day via email.
Here are some important points:
1) Thanks to Complete Loonatics, we have a new series of 9 boxes that will premiere at this event. We've been emailing for months and they really came through with a wonderful series. You will receive the clues when you check in.
2) Thanks to Miss Moon for the event stamp and Bluebirdlover for the logbook. These will be available in the Community Room at the Lodge.
3) Event Patches will be for sale for $5. See either Sue or me for purchase of them during the weekend.
4) Check in times at the Lodge. You may check in as early as noon on Friday and Mike has asked that most of the check ins be complete by 6pm since he will be cooking/serving for the Friday night buffet as well. We realize that there might be a few stragglers coming in later after work or from a far distance.
5) Weather looks great so far. But bring layers of clothing for cooler nights sitting around the firepits, etc.
6) As usual, we ask that you bring an item to share with the group. Tables will be provided in the Community Room on site for your item.
Check your AQ listing on the event page and look at the number to the left of it. If your number is:
1 to 5 - please bring a case of water
6 to 21 - please bring a snack. If you bring a large bag/box, please bring some zip lock bags for individual portions so we can make individual portions for take away
22 to 35 - please bring a dessert. Again zip lock bags or plates would be appreciated. Finger foods please. There is a kitchen in the Community Room that we can use so be advised if you have something that might need to be kept cold.
7) At check in you will be given meal tickets with your assignment as to first or second seating and the time. YOU MUST TELL THEM AT CHECK IN TO CREDIT YOU the amount of the Friday Night Italian Buffet if you aren't participating (there are only a few of you and this was the easiest way to approach that.) Credit is $22 per adult and $13 per child.
8) Meal location is official - just under 4 miles away in the quaint village of Lake George. You might want to arrive early or spend time after your seating to enjoy the shops, etc.
Location: Bella's Deli, 320 Canada Street in the village of Lake George. Check them out on the web - great reviews and friendly staff!
9) If you bring a box or 2 to plant on site at the Lodge (we have permission) they must be removed before we leave. Write up a master copy of the clues and leave them in the Community Room. Don't take the masters but copy clues into the lined books I am bringing - about 20 books so please just take 1 per boxing group. I am also going to include a pen as well. They will be in the packet you receive at the front desk on check in and will be 1 per room.
I think that's everything. Looking forward to another fun weekend and to seeing you all! Safe travels on your way!
Mark
