Preparing for the event

Description

Start planning now for a Delicious Delight at Lake Houston this fall! We have the dining hall reserved for Friday and Saturday.

The theme this year is anything related to food and drinks - cooking, restaurants, countries where food originates, old ADs, gardening, beer and wine, or whatever else you can come up with! To help with the theme, we would love for those who attend to submit one (or more) of your favorite recipes ;-) We will have lots of fun creative clues again this year, but no teams. And it will be kid friendly as usual. More details to come...

Apr 26, 2013: Delicious Delights date finalized
I finally have reservations for the dining hall on Friday and Saturday. If anyone asks I told them the event was for a letterboxing group. If you plan to camp, the park recommends making reservations early because October is a busy month. Campsites 1-8 are closest to the dining hall. Here is a link to the park:

You will need to call to make reservations.

Aug 9, 2013: Camping spots at Lake Houston are full
I recently learned that the camping spots are all taken for the weekend of the event. I tried reserving one of the group campsites, but these are taken as well (probably scouting groups). When I spoke to the park Wednesday, one cabin was available and some of the screened shelters are still available. The cabins are new and very nice, the shelters are in varying shape. If anyone has suggestions for alternative campsites, please let me know and I'll share it with the group.

Sep 18, 2013: Recipe deadline - Oct 6
If you plan to submit a recipe for the event, please send it to Open Space by October 6. Your recipe will be included in a special event cookbook along with clues for the boxes at the event. Those submitting a recipe will receive a little something for their effort.

Sep 18, 2013: Meal schedule for Delicious Delights event
Dinner Friday night in the dining hall at 6 PM - we will pick up food for everyone who signs up (BBQ). Please note it will be $10 per person if you sign up. Or you can bring your own food for free. Sign up here for BBQ: http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gEventId=2993
Potluck lunch Saturday at noon - you know the drill, bring a dish and join in the fun!

Oct 15, 2013: more event details
When you arrive: There are two entrances to the park (the park is split into two halves by a creek with only a walking bridge across it). You must check in at the main entrance on FM 1485 and pay. Tell them you are attending the letterboxing event at the dining hall. They will give you a gate code and directions to the other entrance which will let you park close to the dining hall.

Approximate schedule (you can come and go anytime)
Friday 12:00 Noon - Clue packages will be available at the dining hall.
Friday 6:00 pm - Dinner at the dining hall
Saturday 12:00 noon - Potluck lunch - please sign up to bring a dish!
Saturday 1:00 pm - group photo (if I can remember!)
Saturday 4:00 pm - pinata for the kids

We will have a copier for those who plant boxes to share clues. Do to logistics issues we won't have any night boxing this year.

Oct 20, 2013: event stamps
I've added the Merry Prankster's Stone Soup to the list of event boxes attached to the event. If you brought an event box, feel free to add it as well. (this helps everyone log it)
