Description

A long time from now, in a National Park far far away...

The event will be held at Indian Cove Campground which is located 13 miles east of Joshua Tree Village and 10 miles west of Twenty-nine Palms on the north side of the Wonderland of Rocks. Indian Cove Road dead-ends at this secluded area. A sprawling campground is enclosed by towering rock formations making the area popular with rock climbers, so yes there will be night boxes that lead you up into the rocks.

We have reserved 5 camp sites that will hold about 20-22 people. The site numbers are: 13, 14, 15, 16, & 17. If you would like to make your own reservations for sites, feel free, but they are filling up fast.

*All boxes will have to be temporary as National Parks do not permit permanent placement of letterboxes.

Mar 19, 2013: Joshua Tree patches**
Hi...
Just to let you know Mr. Ospital & I scouted out the campgrounds and trails for box planting today. What a gorgeous area we'll be in!
I picked up 8 Joshua Tree patches to commemorate the weekend. They're $2.00 each...let me know if you want one saved for you.
We're looking at the accomodations & each site is allowed 2 vehicles. If I sent you an email asking you if you're camping, which nights, and how many cars you're traveling to the event in...please let me know. There's no overflow parking in the campground...so we may need to juggle parking a couple cars outside the campground. Thanks so much!!

***IMPORTANT INFO. ADDED APRIL 15th, 2013***** PLEASE READ*** :^)

Hi there Happy Campers!!

You are probably getting tired of hearing from me by now :-]

But here are some questions, reminders and "stuff' --

GENERAL CAMPING INFO:

  • Entrance Fee to Joshua Tree National Park is $15.00 per car
  • Camping Fee is $4.50 per person (this includes little ones of all shapes, size and age) i.e. -- a family of four would be $18.00 total for the weekend
  • The fee covers Friday and Saturday nights -- but still needs to be paid even if you are only staying one night -- please :-)
  • If you have reserved your own space, then of course this fee does not apply!
  • Parking is limited -- so if you can car pool, not only will you save on gas and the Entrance fee - we won't need to ferry so many cars into town for the night
  • The Average Temperature in JTNP in May is 80* to 89* with an overnight Lo average of 46* to 50* - please bring lots of drinking water for yourselves
  • We will have a fire both Friday and Saturday nights, so if anybody can bring some firewood with you -- that would be great
  • We do have extra tables coming -- but don't forget your Camping Chairs
  • There aren't any trees in this campground and we do have a couple of EZ Ups coming -- but if you have one you might be able to bring, please let me know.
  • If you are bringing a BBQ, camp stove or lanterns, and are willing to share -- could you please list it on the Event page
  • If you are bringing a propane cook stove and or BBQ -- don't forget your canisters :-P

FOOD:

  • Friday night dinner and Saturday night dinner "Mains" will be provided -- Friday night will be Hamburgers and Saturday Night will be Chili and Hotdogs. If you need Turkey burgers or Turkey/Chicken hotdogs -- please let me know.
  • Breakfast and Lunch will be on your own -- so please be prepared for that.
  • IF anybody is not planning on eating dinner with us on Friday, or Saturday night -- PLEASE let me know -- I need an idea of how many burgers and dogs I need!!
  • Please bring your own paper plates, utensils and napkins
  • You will need to bring your own Water and drinks
  • Lee has volunteered to bring buns -- is there anybody that would be willing to bring the hot dog buns for Saturday night?
  • We need some chips or potato salad to go with the Hamburgers Friday night -- would anybody be willing to bring something?
  • If you have cooking utensils/camp stove and can share, or you are in need of cooking utensils/camp stove -- please list on the Event Page
  • WHAT!! NO DESSERTS????

You can reach me at: fldnpdls@yahoo.com

Apr 29, 2013: Wanna carve a stamp during the event?
So if you'd like to carve a stamp this upcoming weekend please bring your carving tools, some carving material, and an image of something one might receive at a wedding shower. I will have a sheet of images if you need one to use.
A local boxer, Tdyans, is getting married in the next month & Lee is planning on a series to celebrate the occasion.
Thanks...Cherry on Top

Apr 29, 2013: May the 4th be with ewe . . .
APRIL 29th, 2013

Hi there Happy Campers!

It's only four days until May the 4th -- Are you ready?!

Some Campers have e-mailed asking some pertinent questions that I thought some of you others may want to know the answers to -- but were afraid to ask :-)

Snakes: Yes, they do live in the desert -- but snakes do not like to be around people any more than we want to be around them. Use common sense with pets and children and you may want to bring a walking stick to poke after a letterbox with -- or pair up with somebody who has one :-P

Entrance Fee: That fee is payable to the Park Rangers and they generally give you a tag with a piece of tape to hang it on the inside of your windshield with. The tags are usually good from three to five days and as long as you have it displayed you can come into, and go out of, the Park as often as you like.

Check In, Check Out: Noon on Friday -- Noon on Sunday

Camping Fee: Payable to me, Dezert Ratty, sometime before Noon on Sunday

Dinner Time on Friday: We were thinking around 7pm due to the heat???

Some last announcements:

Shennanigans has offered to bring the Hot Dog buns -- Thank you thank you!!

(If someone else had said they would bring some as well -- let me know)

Unfortunately it looks like it may be a little warmer than we were anticipating so please be sure to bring water, sunblock and hats!

We have three EZ Ups coming -- but if you have one, feel free to bring it to

Bring your camp chairs

Okay -- that is it for tonight -- I am sure there is something I am forgetting??
