Description

The maximum number listed for attending reflects the space available for overnight guests at the Twilight. The hotel will give us additional rooms if they are available. Reservations and room holds will help the hotel to make that decision.

I have spoken with the owners of The Twilight Motel in Ellsworth. Depending how many call and book rooms, the rates may go down. It's looking like about $54.00 per night right now. They have a liberal reservation system and since rooms are limited, I suggest you call asap to make your reservation. Please tell the owners you are with DOWN EAST HIKERS to get our special rate. We will have use of their covered porch which will allow us to gather and exchange, event boxes, etc. They have hot coffee/tea available all day. Hot instant oatmeal and a selection of packaged snacks at breakfast along with orange juice. There are campgrounds in the area. You are welcome to stay at other locations or to attend as day events. The "home base" will be The Twilight Motel though. This location is one of those 1960's style motels. The facilities were exceptionally clean. The owners even nicer. When making your reservation, please mention "Downeast Hikers" so they can keep track of how many of us are attending so they can adjust the rate. They will also try and group us together. If you look at any of the online review sites, most I saw are giving this location a rating of 4 out of 5. I was pleased with my stay. Just understand this is a retro location! http://www.twilitemotel.com/

The theme will be "TWILIGHT". The motel location is just outside of downtown Ellsworth and about 20 minutes to Mount Desert Island. If you want to check on area boxes be sure to search using Ellsworth, Trenton, Bar Harbor, and the other towns located on MDI.

Planning to have a Friday evening meet & greet with a compass/flashlight series of boxes on site. A more Maineish style night boxing event on Saturday night at an area location to be determined. Possibly a group dinner at an area Lobster Pound with alternate menus available. ***Keep in mind that the NPS does not allow boxing in any of the National Parks.*** A Saturday Scavenger Hunt is being planned, so make sure you bring your cell phones with cameras. Sunday morning will be finishing up with exchanges, stamps, packing up and saying goodbyes. All details are subject to change.

4/9/12 Update: Ariela from The Twilight is offering a 15% discount off their lowest rate. She asks that everyone please refer to the name "DOWNEAST HIKERS" when making your reservations. Again, if the final total of rooms is more than the initial estimate, we may get a better price at check in/out.

Feb 18, 2013: Twilight DownEast
Hi Everyone,
With this event coming up quick on the horizon, I would like to remind those who are intending to book a room at the Twilight, to please do so soon.

I would like to invite anyone who would like to contribute any stamps to the event to please do so. I would love to have you bring stamps to plant. If you would like to mail me stamps to plant in advance (probably the week or two before) I will do that. Just msg me privately and I'll give you my mailing address.

I will take a quick poll. Is anyone here interested in possibly doing a group dinner? If so, Friday or Saturday is best for you? If enough are interested, I will look for a casual type place that will be open.

Tabletop boxes. We will have some group space available, but not a lot. If you have any boxes that you want to share, please do, but keep in mind we may not have a big area. Depends on if there are any other groups at the Twilight at the time. As of right now, there aren't, but we do have to share the space.

Apr 5, 2013: Guided Hike w Ranger?
There will not be a guided hike with a Ranger. There has not been enough interest to meet the minimum group size.

It is time to plan my planting trip. Those who offered to help and those still interested, please message me so we can plan it.

Apr 5, 2013: Twilight DownEast
Please confirm your reservations at The Twilight Motel using the name, "DOWN EAST HIKERS". We are getting a 15% discount off their lowest rate and as of this afternoon, only 4 folks were confirmed. If you already booked, please call and confirm you are with Down East Hikers to be assured you get our discount.

Anyone want to send boxes for me to plant as permanent boxes, please contact me to make arrangements. The theme is anything having to do with your interpretation of "TWILIGHT", although I'll take any stamps you want to donate for permanent plants. If anyone wants to earmark any stamps to be planted in Augusta for the Capitol Improvement, I'll take those too.

Apr 15, 2013: Nature Cruise Sunday May 19th??
Hi Everyone,

I want to throw this idea out to everyone to see if there is interest. I work as a naturalist for the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company and we offer a 2 hour nature cruise. It is a lot of fun. We cruise around Frenchman Bay seeing all sorts of things including seals, seabirds, eagles, a lighthouse, and parts of Acadia.

Here is the website for more info:http://www.barharborwhales.com/nature-cruise.php

There is a possibility of getting a significant discount on tickets. I told him about the event and he said he'll try to help us out. I might be able to get tickets for $15 per person. But I want to see how many people are interested.

And I would have stamps for different landmarks and nature we see on the trip. AND I WOULD BE YOUR TOUR GUIDE! HAHAHAH! :)

There is a 10:15 and a 1:15 trip so if you are interested let me know a time preference.

The boat is very comfortable. Has a galley, bathrooms, and indoor and outdoor seating!
Please let me know!

Julie

May 15, 2013: Time Change for Cruise
Hi all!

There has been a change to the nature cruise. Due to scheduling issues with the boats they had to either switch it to 10 am or take smaller boat filled with 30 + other people. In my opinion, it would be best to take the bigger boat at the earlier time. Don't get me wrong the other boat is great but we will be more comfortable on the bigger boat and I planned the activity around the bigger boat too. Please let me know if you can't attend.

Thanks! I am sorry for the last minute change!

Julie
