The Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance is sponsoring this family fun event as part of AQUAFEST'S weekend long event. It is our hope to encourage Letterboxing in the Kennebec Highlands and the Belgrade Lakes Watershed area. There will be new letterboxes planted along the Kennebec Highlands trails as well as near each of the lakes for this event (as well as the boxes from the 6/19 event). Clues will be distributed at the sign in table the morning of the event.

We will be hosting this event at the Belgrade Center For All Seasons located on Route 27 in Belgrade. Just south of the downtown village of Belgrade Lakes. The event will be on the large covered porch overlooking Great Pond. Bathrooms are available. Rain or Shine. Picnic areas are available, please bring your own food and beverages and plan to spend a day in the Lakes Area. Check back for additional information or details.

The Aquafest is a Family Festival. The Letterboxing segment of the event is just a small part of the weekend. Those of you who wish to add a little more entertainment to your visit to the Lakes Area might be interested in some of the following activities: (I'll have fliers available at the 6/19/10 event)
Kids Games, T-Shirt painting, Musical Milfoil, Lake and Stream Critters, Native Fish and Animals, Dragonfly Survey, a Fun Run/Walk/Crawl or Creep, BBQ Lunch ($5 each, under 3 free) Canoe and Kayak Race, Sailboat Race, Sea Plane rides, Family Swim, and the Farmer's Market will be open as will the Art's and Craft Sale in town. Aside from all the non-boxing fun, there are enough boxes in the Lakes Watershed/Highlands area to make a full day of boxing and hiking. :-)

Jul 6, 2010: Aquafest
I think we would all like it if we could get the heat turned off just a bit. Rain is predicted for the weekend. We won't cancel. We'll meet at 10:00 am on the covered porch of the Center for All Seasons. Bring umbrellas just in case.

1. Please print and bring any clues for existing boxes. I will have clue pamphlets for all clues that are listed as being planted for the BRCA.

2. Several locations are near swimming spots. Please feel free to bring your lake toys and enjoy. We are on Long Pond and have kayaks to share if you want to get the two boxes planted out there.

3. I will give everyone the directions to my house at the meeting point. Feel free to leave your coolers or whatever there on our front porch. If anyone wants my cell phone # in case you miss us at the Center, email me and I'll send it to you.

4. There is a public BBQ planned in town that day. I think it's $5 each and under 3 free. You can also pick up snacks, drinks, sandwiches at Day's or the Village Seafood place for take out. You can also bring your own and plan to eat picnic style at one of the beaches or along the trails.

5. Anyone who wants to come back to our house is welcome. We will have some beverages, snacks, and salads, desserts. Please bring what ever you want to grill and whatever else you might want.

6. We are on a rocky shore section so you can not walk into the water. We have a dock and a ladder. Water is about 5 feet deep at the ladder. If you need swimmies or life jackets, please bring your own, also any and all swim toys are welcome. We have some rafts and the kayaks for sharing.
