Description

Come join us for a day of letterboxing and socializing at the historic El Rancho de las Golondrinas. The rancho is located 15 miles southwest of Santa Fe and was an important stopping point on the route of the El Camino Real (the “Royal Road” from Mexico City to Santa Fe). Now the rancho is open as a living history museum where one can wander down the trails through the wheat fields and cottonwood trees to various historic buildings (which have been either restored or moved to this site). The 200-acre ranch includes an old schoolhouse, an old mill with a water wheel, a blacksmith shop, and a country store.

Our group will meet at the large outdoor dining pavilion, where we will have tables for our use for exchanges, etc. Letterboxes will be planted specially for this event and most will be available for this day only. Clues will be available at the event for these boxes. In addition, lionsmane will be carving an event stamp. We’ll plan on doing exchanges in the morning, having some lunch and a group photo, then there’s plenty of time for letterboxing in the afternoon. We’ll be there all day (the Rancho is open from 10 to 4).

Admission to the Rancho is:
$6 for adults (non-residents of New Mexico)
$4 for seniors over 62 and teens 13-18
$2 for children ages 5-12 and for all New Mexico residents

Food will not be served as part of the event but you are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch. Or you may purchase a lunch from the dining concession at Las Golondrinas (mostly Mexican food, hot dogs, etc.)

We hope you will come join us for a day at El Rancho de los Letterboxes!

Here are some nearby boxes (on the SE side of Santa Fe) that you may want to print out clues for – you might want to hit some of them on the way to or from the event –
