We looked and walked down the trail a bit, but found no gates or tree stumps—it may have all overgrown. Oh well thanks anyway!

I think the tree has been destroyed

The tree was cut down. The worker left a note in the box and left the box sitting in a nearby tree. It was pretty much in the open. We moved it to the back end of the fence. Follow the yellow gate back into the woods and it is in a broken tree by some other fencing. Sorry we didn't write sooner. We thought we had recoded this find, but forgot.
