Description
Hostelling International Madison (HI Madison) celebrates UN World Environment Day with an interactive weekend event series to introduce the international treasure hunt hobby of Letterboxing, and remember Madison’s Governor Nelson and his lasting contributions to the modern American environmental movement.During the Saturday intro class led by HI Madison employee and local letterbox enthusiast, guests will learn the basics of this hobby that combines, travel, collecting, and art. The class will cover the history of letterboxing, community etiquette, and resources and be followed by a lunch at the hostel.
On Sunday, participants will head to Governor Nelson State Park to create or share their own trail supplies, and hunt for a letterbox that was planted in the park nearly 7 years ago, in honor of Governor Nelson. This weekend at Nelson State Park will also be Free Fun Weekend; vehicle admission sticker fees and trail fees on state-operated designated state trails are waived, and you might be interested in attending some of their events after the find!
