I was able to finally get to New Orleans and do some maintenance for this box on September 30, 2008. The box has been hidden in a different place and the clues have been updated. The clues below are the new clues.

Information:

Those who visit New Orleans' cemeteries will find that Its history is often buried SIX FEET ABOVE ground.
In New Orleans they bury their dead in above ground tombs. New Orleans' high water table and below sea level elevation prohibits below ground burial. These "Cities of the Dead" have become quite famous and generate a lot of interest from historians and the general public. Anne Rice frequently uses Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 for locations in her stories - the Mayfair Witches' family tomb is here. Lafayette Cemetary has also been the location of movies such as Double Jeopardy and Interview with the Vampire.
Tombs in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 are constructed with a shelf near the top where recently deceased bodies are placed. The shelf doesn't extend all the way to the back so when it's time to add another body the previous bones can be pushed to the rear where they fall through joining any remains already present. Regulations limit the opening of tombs to once a year, not nearly frequently enough during times like the yellow fever epidemics, so temporary "storage ovens" line some of the exterior walls in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.

Directions:

Lafayette Cemetery No.1
New Orleans, LA
Hours: M-F 7:00am-2:30pm Sat 7:00am-12:00pm
Closed Sun and Holidays
(except Mother's Day, Father's Day, and All Saint's Day)

Located in the Garden District section of New Orleans and accessible by the St. Charles Streetcar, as well as by car. By streetcar from Downtown or Uptown, get off at the Washington Ave. or Sixth St. stops. Walk one block towards the river and enter at either the Washington Ave. or Sixth St. gates.

Clues:

Find the statue shown in the picture above. Facing the statue turn to your left. Walk about 30 steps. You should have passed four Magnolia Trees and are now standing between the fourth and fifth trees. Now turn right and walk to the back of the cemetery. A little to your left are two tombs - Ginder and Palfrey. There is a palm-type plant (?Sago Palm?) between the two tombs. The box is located behind the palm at its base covered with concrete and bricks. Please make sure to recover well so that this box will stay in place. Be discreet!
