This is one of the most heavily traveled trails in the Mount Hood area, since the easy trail passes by the scenic Mirror Lake up to an incredible view from the top of Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain. The box is actually hidden AT Mirror Lake, not on the mountain top. Unfortuantely, the damaged caused by the large numbers of hikers is readily apparent around the lake, and next time I visit the area, I think I'd rather do it on snowshoes in the winter when the snow will cover most of the erosion. Most people stop at Mirror Lake, so if you do continue hiking beyond the lake to Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain, you'll leave most people behind you. If you hike all the way to Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain, it'll be about 6.4 miles with a 1,500 foot elevation gain.

Directions

The trailhead is at a pullout off of Highway 26 between mileposts 51 and 52. Usually, there are large numbers of cars parked here regardless of the time of year. You can't miss it.

Clue

Walking counter-clockwise around the lake, you'll cross over a long boardwalk made of planks. Where the planks end, there is a small clearing on the left. Follow the fallen log of two to the far side of it, and search for the letterbox in the stump at the end of it.

Hike Length: 3.0 miles
Elevation Gain: 700 feet
