A map is probably a very good thing to take on this hike, since it crosses a pethora of logging roads and might be difficult to find the correct route. The trailhead is located just off Highway 6 near milepost 33 between Portland and Tillamook. It's a nice, mostly wooded hike to University Falls. It's not impressive compared to the more well-known falls of the Columbia River Gorge or Silver Falls State Park, but has its own charm anyhow. And if you believe everything you read, there's even a chance of finding piranah! =)
Clue
Your Mission:Rescue a pet pig named Porky.
We got a report of a missing pig. It seems somebody (we're not naming names or pointing fingers, though) thought it would be fun to take their pig for a walk to University Falls. It escaped it's owner and is now on the loose.
Another hiker reported a strange event we think may be related. He said he was a large pig rooting through some brush. We believe this might be the missing pig. The hiker reported the following directions for where he last saw the pig:
- From University Falls, return to the intersection of four trails.
- Take 70 steps at 200 degrees (magnetic).
- On a small hill about 7 feet high, on the right, is a stump.
- The pig was last seen rooting around this stump.
It is your mission--no, you're duty--to find that pig and rescue it. Good luck.
