I have tried the Riesling as well. I happen to like sweet wines, so I enjoyed it.
I purchased a bottle of the Red Velvet to have on Christmas, but others brought wine too and the Red Velvet just didn't get opened.
Cupcake has a nice website that might help you make a good choice for you as well as what foods to pair with. http://www.cupcakevineyards.com/wines

Have you tried the Middle Sister Wines? I am a middle sister, so my brother buys those for me. The wines are good and the bottle labels are a hoot. https://wineshop.winesisterhood.com

I went to Red Robin last night and I had the Irish shake. It consisted of Soft serve ice cream, chocolate Guinness and Whiskey. I must say the only thing better would have been a garnish of bacon! Funny one waitress said. I had a customer last night say the same thing.

Dark Belgian chocolate often goes well with a Belgian Dubel or Strong Ale.

They have cannabis vodka in the duty free store. I wonder if I could even bring that into the country.

Bring it in the Washington state border and you should have no problem. It's legal to have pot here. The officials are beside them selves trying to decide what to do sine the feds consider it illegal. Who would have guessed that the initiative would pass???!!! {snicker}

But I'm late transferring the raspberry batch to a secondary fermentor.

So . . . are you guys thinking of having an event in Maine say around next Halloween? This halloween is booked for me but Maine sounds like a delicious place for home-made goodness this time of the year.

ATVRacer and I have thrown around the idea of a tasting event, but that would mean he would have to finish a brew (in otherwords it can't blow up!) We hosted a pub crawl last year, which was a great chance to taste come of the local stuff. We usually bring different beers and such to the camping events for a tasting night. So think about the August camping event in Maine.

  • Make sure to fully ferment before bottling
  • Don't use too much priming sugar (3/4c for American or 1/2c for English for 5 gallons)
  • Use Star-San for sanitation!

It blew up the night he made it. He put it in the 5 gal carboy instead of the 6 gal pail, and when it started to expand it popped the stopper right off. The man cave smelled like red ale for weeks. He still has a Porter kit to use. I bought it for him the equipment 4 years ago, still no homebrew.

He needs to stop complaining about the sewing machine that he bought me for xmas 5 years ago, that's still in the box.

Oh, that would do it. A 5-gal carboy is perfect for secondary and tertiary fermentation, but not for primary :) One thing that he could have done, and can do in the future if it happens again (some brews have strong fermentations), is to put a sanitized tube from the stopper and into a bucket of water. The excess gas and foam will bubble into the bucket and not onto the floor and the water will work as an airlock. Some people say to use water with bleach or sanitizer in it, but I don't like putting that stuff near the brew incase there's a reverse syphon.

August camping event in Maine

Sorry, we don't camp. We are too freakin old for that. Soft cushy beds, heat or A/C, Denny's next door. That's roughing it for us. We like to travel around Halloween (our anniversary) and Maine is near the top of our list for 2014 weather permitting. I've heard Maine is the home brew capital of the country - I'm not too old for sampling some of that. I also saw Mud's cranberry preserves posted a couple weeks ago which sounds so yummy.

Hubby made apple cider one time and it was lethal. Best to age for at least one year and then WATCH OUT, it was curtains for me, shower curtains, lol.
