Palm Springs area Meet & Greet?

8 Bare Feet, Horsemaniac, and Mr. Lego Man will be in the Palm Springs area during the Thanksgiving week (and the Sunday before Thanksgiving) and would be very interested in attending a Meet and Greet if anyone in the area would like to host the event. :)

Since a couple of us LA folks have shown some interest, how about late Sunday afternoon? That would allow us the time to drive out that way. Would you prefer pot-luck at a park or sit down at a restaurant?

Suggestions:

The Wheel Inn in Cabazon: That would save us the last chunk of the drive. You'd all have to head west a bit, but there might be a couple boxes to find to make it worth it.

Desert Highland Park, 480 Tramview Rd, on the north end of Palm Springs. Small park with a handful of tables and a couple covered gazebos. No reason, just the first one I saw on the map.

Demuth Park, 4375 Mesquite Ave, more in the middle of Palm Springs. This one I have an ulterior motive for choosing, but I'll let you figure that out. Mostly baseball fields, but it looks to have plenty of tables on the east end of the park.

I looked around downtown Palm Springs for a restaurant, but it looks to be lots of small bistros: probably a bit pricey and not a lot of room for a large group who want to do stamping. If you have a suggestion, please speak up.

Oh yes please!!!! As one who can rarely get out to LA with any frequency I would even be up for securing a space for us. I do have a couple of suggestions if we want sit down, but given the time of year we will have to move quickly. The snowbirds will be here soon!

The Rock Garden is a GREAT place to meet and eat. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It is at the very south end of Palm Springs.

The park (any park really) is a bit harder to secure without paying. It is a first come first served. Ruth Hardy Park is a bit more central to Palm Springs while Demuth is actually more toward Cathedral City.

If we choose a park, I have a couple of 6 ft tables I can toss in the truck and bring over to add to any picnic types we might be able to secure.

If I have an idea of what you all are looking for I can likely come up with some other suggestions for places.

I came up with Demuth park because I noticed there was a new box planted nearby, then I noticed that pilgrimsinthisland had already suggested it in their original post. There appears to be several tables there, so if you can toss a couple extras into the mix, I think we'll be fine.

I wanted to give those of us driving out enough time, but I don't want it to be too late. Is noon okay for everyone? I think Cherry and I could meet Ratty and all drive out together.

Now that I've asked, I'm gonna just go ahead and post an event. If we need to change it we will, but I'm an assertive kind of guy, I suppose.

Okay, on the event page I put a link to the two AQ and one Yahoo thread that are going on this, in an attempt to get everyone on the same page.

Since Piper Paws is driving out to Rancho Mirage anyhow to drop Marco at his grandparents, she could meet us at 2pm, and since Ratty and Cherry suggested getting a couple boxes beforehand, I think again that 2pm might be better. Is that cool?

I can tell you from many experiences that someone needs to be at the park early enough to grab a table. If you wait until 1 or 2 it is unlikely one will be available. I am pretty sure AYSO soccer has games that weekend as well. I will check.
