YEAH!

I finally carved a siggy stamp...SOO happy. I have just been another bird in my familys' group, but now I can stamp in with that AND my own stamp. I'm pretty happy with it. Plus, it means easier stamp-exchanges at events and I can find boxes on my own (like sleepover with my friends at campers and stuff, haha)

I just felt like sharing...thanks everyone! LOL :D

My Mistake

I was wondering if someone could help me here...

I stumbled across a delicious-smelling plastic container last week that has been pretty chewed by some other rodents. When I went to go have a gnaw myself, I saw a block of wood and what used to be a notebook, I guess, with a couple pretty-coloured stamps and the faint word "letterbox" written on it. The book has been pretty chewed up by bugs and had turned to mush. I feel like this belongs to someone and feel bad that it has been destroyed out in the elements...

I headed off to the library last week to get on the internet and searched for letterbox and came here! What a discovery! I may just hide some letterboxes myself. But I can't seem to find this one in your directories to let the owner know...

Any help?
Thanks so much,
Maggie

I smell a rat, maybe?

Perhaps a clue for a PT for Saturday's Mind Bending Clues?

Ha, ha!! No wonder everyone was so strangely silent. You see... I just don't get that mind bending stuff. I'm pretty dense on that front. Ask RubberRabbit. When we boxed together she was the one to always figure that stuff out, while I went for the direction/map stuff.

Have fun at the event. Say hi to everyone for me. Wish I was there!!

Thanks for the help, water lily!

I live in a forest near a dam - I found the box between two rocks. I use the whitevale public library if that helps. Sorry I didn't get to you sooner - it's only open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Thanks,
Maggie

Hi Mystery Mouse. Is this the box you found?

http://letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=9416&boxname=Whitevale

If so, it's well-known for being leaky, full of snails, etc. The planters seem to have quit letterboxing so the box is a bit of an orphan.

My mom was in Walmart the other day and came home with 11 Lock'n'Locks for about $15.00. From what I think this seems decent, right? She said they were all 50% off, and that there was a NEW line. They're 'clear', but they look more blue. There's a small ledge-like thing on them, though. Not sure if that would make it hard to camo...
Anyways, she got them at the WalMart at Eastgate mall in Stoney Creek.

Just thought I'd let everyone know! Although, I'm not sure if this might be at other stores too.

Cool! Thanks for passing this along...... I just might have a few stamps lying around that need to be 'released into the wild'. :) So some more LNL's will be in order!

....and Fiddleheads -- what brand of paint do you use to paint your boxes? I think it would be awesome to paint them instead of having to wrap them in camo tape.

I used Krylon Fusion for Plastics, matte black. I sanded the boxes before I painted them because there's a thin film of a lubricant on them from the factory. (Children are helpful for the sanding process...)

I did about 10 boxes at once, on a garbage bag in the yard. Took about 5 minutes total, including waiting for the first thin coat to dry.

Even the paint on the underwater box held up well.

My family, the Big Blue Team, would like to thank Fiddleheads and her family for hosting this amazing event. We managed to find 8 of the 11 boxes so we did pretty well. I especially appreciated learning some new skills for writing and solving clues. Lunch was awesome. I'm so glad we were able to come out to play. We had a great time!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Pam

You're very welcome, Pam. We had such a perfect day for an event, and everyone was so kind and helpful.

So, my Ontario friends, where will next year's event be? :)

I loved the hall. How great is it to have a full size kitchen! Rockwood is such a pretty little town and the conservation area is so beautiful. Thanks for the Science Centre clip-on compass and the ROT13 key tag. You out-did yourselves Fiddleheads. :)

Thanks for the instructions....it sounds like it might even be fun too!

A long time ago, I had to spray paint a board, and I 'borrowed' one of my husband's tarps. When I was finished, there was a nice white square on his othewise immaculate blue tarp. Ooops! So I'll hafta decide if I want to use a garbage bag, or just add some more little squares to his tarp!!! lol ;)

Thanks again......

Hi Ontario Boxers! I just planted two new boxes in Amherstburg, ON I hope you will come on down and find them. I will be planting more this weekend. I know there are practically NO boxes near Windsor. We would love it if anyone wants to plant in this area along with us and get some more boxers into lower Ontario! I am from Michigan but have a cottage in the Harrow area so I plan to be planting more next Summer as well. I hope to do a few on Point Pelee! Please plant as well so we can come find them. Thanks and have a great day! BoxBoyz

How wonderful to have some new boxes in the far west of the province. Point Pelee is a good incentive to head that way. Thanks for planting!

Yep, that area of the province can sure use some new LBs! Was through there a few years ago, and picked up a find in Essex and an attempt in Windsor, and that was all that was available til the London area!

Thanks for planting; gives us incentive to look that way!
