I have heard that you are supposed to carry a letterboxing kit that contains your signature stamp and your logbook. I was wondering what else you should carry in your letterboxing kit.

In addition to all of the aforementioned, we also have some headlamps - great for looking into dark hard to reach spaces (a flashlight will work as well).

Snack -trail type - granola bars, cheerios, ect.

(well and rocks, but that's only because the little imps are trying to kill me by picking up every single rock on the trail and adding it to my pack).

My kit has grown to nearly two full backpacks. Whomever is boxing with me carries the non-essentials. Always keep water bottles separate from your "paper" products. I had a near disastrous experience when the condensation camethisclose to my logbook.

The ones that haven't been mentioned;

I carry several cheap rain ponchos
large gallon ziplocks; the only way to keep your clues dry in the rain and still read them!
extra sheets of paper towels to replace the old gnarly ones in some boxes
unscented baby wipes to clean off stamps
a red pen to mark an arrow on the back of a stamp when you can't tell which direction is up

 I thought about it after I posted it. I remember a big ruckus about it a while ago. How about; A sponge and 5 gallon canteen with water to clean off each and every stamp you come across for the rest of your life :-)

Another thing we carry is mace. Never used it while boxing, but you never know who or what you might meet up with on the trails.

A glove is a great idea- you never know what might be hiding deep inside some of those hollow tree trunks! I'll have to add one to my backpack.

This works wonders on rainy days.

Also I carry hard candy for those shaky moments.
Cell phone
and if you have a medical condition or not... you need some type of ID on you.
Stay safe and keep boxing,

(please forgive me for going off the topic of letterboxing kit but this is something I feel very strongly about. *...enter kind and loving informational mode...*)

I taught women's self defense for years and studies have shown that mace is almost useless. By the time you dig it out of your bag, point it in the right direction (away from you) aim and fire it is to late. Even in tests that have a person with it in hand and ready to use, a person can often be grabbed without it being used effectively (it must get into the eyes). I encourage everyone, adults and children to learn some basic self defense, your own body and voice can never be taken away from you. And also if you are dependent on a tool for defense and it is taken away it is psychologically very defeating and people don't often realize they have other options. One of the best gifts you can give someone you love it a 6 week course in self defense.
(I apologize the long self defense ramble, all done with love)

Mine does. But my bare minimum emergency kit that I keep in the glove box of the car, is a baggie with a few blank index cards, a black crayola marker, and a pencil.

Yes. A pair of gloves accompanies me as well, But.... for reaching into hollow areas.... under in and so forth..... I use a stick. Gloves might not offer the protection you want in some cases.

All that stuff takes too much space. All you need is your logbook, stamp, ink, pen and the specially designed AQ hip flask.

Okay, but I'm more concerned about off-leash dogs. In parks I'll keep mace clipped on my waistband or in my pocket in case we're charged.

lol, Fair enough. I have no knowledge about dog vs. mace. A little harder to knee a dog in the groin so I won't ask you to try that. :)
