Hairy Tale
Board: Look at Me! Look At You!

Ok, I know you can't actually see me, but those of you who have met me know my hair was long - very long - over halfway down my back long. In case you missed it, the operative word in that previous sentence was was. My hair is now chin length. Yes, I had almost a foot of hair cut off!

Why, you ask? Lock of Love. Locks of Love takes donated hair to make wigs for children with cancer or chronic conditions that inhibit hair growth. Lock of Love

If you have 10 inches or more of hair that you are willing to cut off, you too can help. If you are leery about cutting off that much hair, be grateful that you have hair. Think of all of those children that don't have any.

Perhaps I will make their logo into a stamp. Then, if you donate hair to Locks of Love, I can send it to you as a postal. I will definitely think about it. :)

The stamp is a wonderful idea and blessings on you for your very personal gift.

As a cancer nurse, I applaud your compassion and drive to help others...

Keep it up. I know people that grow hair only for that purpose. Every couple of years, they go get a "bob" and start to grow again.

I donated to Locks of Love some time ago, and it felt so good to be able to do something so simple that would mean a whole lot more to someone else than to me. They even send you a little certificate of appreciation. The stylist doing the cutting kept showing me how long 10 inches was and asking "Are you sure?" LOL. Now my hair has gotten pretty long again, but I don't think I quite have 10 inches to spare yet. It's hot and I'd like to get it cut short, but it feels like such a waste to just cut it and not have enough to donate! So I'm trying to hold out.

Mine kept doing the same thing. Even after I had assured her multiple times that it was alright. Then when she was doing the styling after the cut, she kept clearing everything with me too. I just wanted a blunt cut all the same length - how hard is that? Sheesh! Be like Nike - Just do it! :) She was very nice, though.

Now everyone is asking me "Is this the shortest you have ever had your hair?" Nope! My mom would never let me have long hair as a kid, so it was always very short. Then she got me a perm in second grade - I looked like Little Orphan Annie without red hair! Kept getting my hair permed until I was in college though. Of course, that is when I had to start paying for it!

Good for you.
Cleo of the Outdoor Girls would love a Locks of Love PLB. She just donated 10 more inches for a whopping total of 38 inches so far. She has it cut every two years. It is amazing that she grows 10 inches of hair every two years!
I applaud Locks of Love for their compassion to help children get through cancer and feel good about it.

Now that's a lock of love for sure. My DH wants me to grow my hair out again. I'm starting to grow gray and I told him he would have to dye it for me to grow it out. He does a great job, though the gloves don't fit his big hands, so they usually end up dyed too, LOL.

I wish my hair would grow fast like y'all say yours does. I hate that growning out stage. It's just awful.

It's wonderful you donated your hair. I did that when I was 13, my hair was past my knees and I bobbed it. A few years later I was told I had cervical cancer and really understood just what I had given when I cut my hair. (I still have a small bald spot that the hair never grew back) But I'm a 15 year survivor and my anniversary was June 11 th. So you hang in there and let it grow out a few more inches. Good Luck and thanks for caring.

TG,

Good for you! I have been fortunate enough to donate my hair twice. I donated 13 inches in 2001 and 11 inches last year. It was hard to see that much hair go, but at least I know mine will grow back. Congratulations again for your donation!

I've done it twice too. It amazes me how fast my hair grows back. I had never cut it until I did it for this and in less then a year and a half I cut the same amount off again. 26 inches in 2 1/2 years! It makes you feel really good inside to be able to do something so small that will help so may others!
