Joan of Arc, Saint (1412-1431) Before she was burned at the stake in the Rouen marketplace.
"Hold the cross high so I may see it through the flames!"

Antoinette, Marie, Queen of France (1755-1793) As she approached the guillotine, she accidentally stepped on the foot of her executioner.
"Pardonnez-moi, monsieur."

Cavell, Edith (1865-1915) -- Sentenced to death; she was shot by a German firing squad
"I expected my sentence and believe it was just. Standing, as I do, in the view of God and eternity I realize that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness to anyone."

Paris told Barbara Walters her medical condition in jail was that she was feeling very sad and she felt like she "was in a cage."

Then she promised to stop acting dumb (see above for doubtful outlook).
