Can't find my own box...

Yep... I've lost my own box and I don't know where I hid it.

I created a three box series in 2004 and was sure I'd making it out to plant the series along a river bank SOON. Well, I didn't make it out to that river bank until April of 2007, only to find so much poison ivy that I wouldn't even let my kids get out of the car. So, now what?

Well, I took the series to another area along a river. I managed to pant all three boxes with two of my children with me. But, as soon as I left I knew I wasn't happy with their location because it seemed too crowded and the tick on my three year old was the last straw.

I went back to find the boxes three weeks later so that I could remove them. I didn't have the notes with me, but I enjoyed looking for them so much that I decided I'd keep them hidden there. Now that my children weren't screaming "I have to go potty!" it didn't seem like there was anyone looking at us. Actually, there was no one there at all!

So, I made notes about the boxes as I walked the trail from END to BEGINNING, looking for my first box last. Well, I couldn't find it. I had tried to hide it in three or four different places and now that the area was covered in wild rose bushes and other plants in full swing, well... I can't remember where I put it!

I thought of listing clues for the two boxes and for the first one, I could just say... "See that big rock? It's across the trail from that... I THINK... but I have no idea where!" :) Only, if I did that then people would probably stomp around where they shouldn't be stomping around.

I guess I'll just try to find them again when I can go alone and don't have to worry about my girls getting ticks. :) Those poor letterboxes have been waiting THREE years to make it into the wild and now their initiation into the letterboxing world is STILL incomplete.

Anyone else do something this ridiculous?

Yes, almost the same thing. Put a box out, didn't write the clues for over a year and then when I went to check them, the box was gone or I wasn't in the right place. I've done this twice. I need to get better at notes and more timely with listing boxes. I just wasn't sure I wanted to leave the box there.

LOL sounds like something I would do... except I would loose it before it even left the house. I am always putting things in odd places to keep my toddler from playing with them... then I look around and wonder "where did I put that again?" We still have not found the remote to the DVD player.... *sigh* If only it left clues for me to follow...

Good luck!

(hey, if you find it, shouldn't it count as a find? Hehe...)

You could list it as part of the series, as a bonus box.

Once we had gone out to find planting places. I found the perfect spot, and I could picture the location. I thought that I had it all fixed in my mind. When we went back to do the actual planting, I couldn't find it! Ever trail junction on the left I would say "Is this the right trail to those rocks?" and Dorks Anonymous would say no and laugh at me. (At least I wasn't looking for trails on the right -- there's a creek on that side!) At least he knew where we were going. And usually I have the better sense of direction!

And then there was the time that we had a box specially rigged up for an event (on a fishing pole, cast in the bay) that we planted for real/keeps at the park after the festivities were done.
We forgot to post the new clues until almost a year later (we we're wondering why no one had found it!). In the meantime we had lost the clues and had to go back and refind our own box. But now the clues are (finally, whew!) posted and correct.

Oh, my gosh. Did you really???

I've never done that but I've had that brain freeze moment when you look around and you KNOW the box is supposed to be right here but it's not. That's because it's fifty feet away at the other "right-here" spot.
