Myself, my Mum (Heart Writer), my aunt and cousin (noxxers but hoping to convert them), are planning a trip to "England/Scotland/Somewhere in that direction" in November. Heart Writer and my aunt have been given flight vouchers, my cousin and I are looking for tickets...

here's the catch...Auntie has all these timeshares...and they're all booked...so now we are planning a trip and have nowhere to stay. Our budget very closely resembles a shoestring. Our plan is to depart the US November 1 and return on the 12th or 13th. We are entirely flexible on what part of your lovely country/island we see/stay in...but it must be a good neighborhood for four female tourists, and as inexpensive as possible.

any ideas would be welcome, post here, aq mail me, or send to my "real" email knight.writer@yahoo.com

thanks...

A few years (okay, more than 10) ago, my Mother and I went to England/Scotland. In Bath we stayed at a hostel type place. It was like a dorm. They served breakfast. It was very comfortable and safe. It was super cheap. Mama made all the arrangements, so I can't give any info to you. But, it may be something you can look into. Good luck. I sure wish I was going with you.

If Mama remembers, I'll get back to you. Good Luck.

I agree with Blooming Flowers, we've done a lot of exploring in areas by staying in Bed N Breakfasts. They're reasonable, and sometimes downright cheap, and you get to see some beautiful old homes and meet some wonderful people. Once you figure out where you'd like to stay, use the internet to look up B and B's in the area.

Good luck,

Hostels are the way to go. Most have private/family rooms, or you can go the cheapest way - dorm rooms. It's just a place to sleep, as you'll be out touring most of the day so who cares!

In the UK breakfast is almost always included at hostels. They have kitchens where you can cook your own food and common areas to meet other travelers. Many are in historic, fun, old buildings.

Hostels are the way to go.

You took the words right out of my mouth Preboxed. The hostels are very comfortable these days and you are very free to follow your own itinary.

I would love to say come and couchsurf, but unfortunately my flat is so small the couch is not large enough to lie down on :-(

Keep letting us know how your plans develop though, because I am sure we would all love to meet up with you if you are in our areas.

You can also try the Youth Hostels Asociation (YHA) http://yha.org.uk They have hostels in most major owns and cites as well as some of the most beautiful parts of the country.

Don't be put off by the "youth" in the name. These days they cater for all ages andyou are as likely to meet sixty-year olds as you are sixteen-year olds.
