EWWW I just knocked my kid's tooth out

He was running toward me, I put my arm out for a hug, he zigged, I zagged and his mouth connected with my arm. Luckily it was really loose and almost ready to come out. But it was all bloody and gross.

At least the blood is stopping now. I may pass out! Loose teeth gross me out. And those darn kids know it too....every kid that has one comes up to me and shows me all the time!

Wonder if this earns more from the tooth fairy??

I'm with you. My 7yo has only had two loose ones so far, but with both of them he was able to push it out with his tongue until it was horizontal - UGH! And my dad was a dentist!

That's the one thing I hate about working in an elementary school.
And yes, ALL the kids know it creeps me out, and they love it!

As soon as my daughter gets a loose tooth she yanks 'em out. They are always bloody and gross. I think it's kind of funny seeing as how she is such a girly girl. And her brother always freaked when a tooth fell out. I guess we're just a weird family!

Absolutely!!! Any time a parent punches a kid's tooth out, the tooth fairy HAS to be extra super generous! LOL

My dad used to tie a string to my loose teeth and the doorknob and pull them by slamming the door. I'm waiting for my kids to decide they're not too squeamish for me to do that. ;-)

People really did that? I just thought it was one of those things you saw on the Flintstones!

By the way....what is the going rate for the tooth fairy around different parts of the country?

The tooth fairy gives a dollar to my kids, but I know quite a few kids around here that get much more than that!

At my house, the tooth fairy gives $1 and a foreign coin depending on where she last visited. We live in the Atlanta area. My kids' friends get between $1 and $5 usually.

The tooth fairy brings $1 Canadian. That's about $.90 US - good deal for the tooth fairy north of the border!

Our kids get a dollar normally but the tooth fairy brings a special gift for the first one too. A book or box of crayons or something.

$1.00 here in Statesville, NC, but our fairy is too lazy to climb the stairs and usually just puts it in the clock on the mantle.

One time, she forgot for about 2weeks (I know a lady who knows a guy who knows the tooth fairy and they said she had gotten really back logged). Anyway, so did the toothloser.

That time she brought $2.00. The extra dollar was an apology.

NEWS FLASH: Tooth inflation in the mountains of North Carolina... I think it must be hard on her to fly up here and the mountain teeth are extremely valuable... she doesn't want to fly up for nothing so she gives DVDs instead of cash:)

oops!! Now how many baby teeth do kids lose???? (Doing the math now that should have been done beforehand...) Oh well...

My kids would rather have a hand full of coins than dollar bills.
It usually winds up being between 2 and 3 dollars.

Mine usually get a gold dollar coin(Sacajawea) SP?? They hang on to those. Occasionally they get a 20 spot for a molar because they don't ever get allowance. Thus, they have a little "walk around" money,(as my Father puts it)which promptly burns a hole in their pockets. Makes me laugh every time.

Listen, you need to forget about the truth here and make up a really good story. First off, the teachers and other adults at school probably won't smile when your kid says "Mommy knocked my tooth out!" Also, the other kids won't be nearly as impressed as if your kid tells them he got in a fight with a kid three years older and whipped him good.

Our tooth fairy is a cheap one at only 50 cents per tooth, usally. Except for that one time she forgot and went to bed in which case she left $2.00 the following night. She did, however, once leave a very detailed response to my daughters full page of written questions left with the tooth, so she's not all bad! (just in case you were wondering what she does with all of those collected teeth, they are ground up for flower fertilizer, now you know!)

Not me! I love pulling out teeth! I inherited that trait from my Dad, who once got very offended because I put one of those little milk straws on a loose tooth while I was at school and the kid who grabbed the straw from my mouth tooth the tooth with it. We all knew better than to pull out our own teeth, and so do my kids, lovely little chickens.

1.00 here in Texas. And, I refuse to pull them. I told my baby girl that she'd have to wait for daddy or pull it herself, I wasn't having anything to do with it. She pulled it herself. How can such a small thing bleed so much? Ick!

When she lost her first tooth, it was about 11 pm on a weekend night, so we had to call her big sisters and Granny. I couldn't believe no one was as excited as we were? What is wrong with these people? This was a major life changing event.

One time, when my oldest was still in the baby tooth loosing age, the Christmas tree fell on her and knocked her tooth out. She was traumatized. It was so hard not to laugh. We never did find the tooth. So, she had to draw a picture and leave it. She got extra for that tooth.

Then, there was the time that the tooth fairy forgot to come. So, I told her to go take her bath and while she was gone, the tooth fairy came. But, she swears she saw the tooth fairy out the window and even described "him". That was scary. Didn't ever find the guy, or really know if he existed or not.

I have a friend who can not stand saliva or spit. Of course she has 2 boys. Glad the tooth was coming out already, I was afraid it was an adult tooth.

Our resident tooth fairy leaves a nice crisp dollar bill in an envelope full of "fairy dust", but if the tooth is damaged (like if it has a cavity) she will only leave 75 cents. The first and last tooth get an extra treat ... an extra dollar specifically for Sweet Jenny's. She leaves a hand made gift certificate attached to the extra dollar so they know to use it at the sweet shop.

Completely grossed out by loose teeth,

My son lost his first tooth (literally) while eating a hot dog.
We never did find it. I suppose he swallowed it, but I wasn't going to wait around for it just so we could put it under his pillow!

I swallowed a couple of my teeth as a kid. I never wanted to pull them out, so they'd get super loose until they fell out on their own-- while I was eating. I remember being really concerned that the Tooth Fairy wouldn't leave me anything since I had no tooth to offer, but we left her a note explaining the situation and she was kind enough to oblige. ;)

$1 for regular circumstances and $5 if the dentist has to extract it. And a special present for first teeth (an extra dollar coin and a flower, in the case of the little girl PEA.)

I'm thinking that not only should the tooth fairy bring a little extra to the kid, but Crazyolis should get a little something under HER pillow, too, for enduring the "bloody and gross; ... I may pass out! Loose teeth gross me out." situation! :-)

Our tooth fairy leaves a 1900's era silver dollar.. which Dad always buys off them for $5.00.

Once we were at Disneyland and my daughters tooth came out and the TF left a $10.00 Disney gift card.

So I sez to the tooth fairy "Hey, so, like, what's up if this chick I know practically got sliced open by her kid on his loose tooth?" and SHE'S all like "Hey, we ALL got problems, sister!" and I'm like, "Yeah?" and she's like "Totally! I been getting calls from lawyers lately about this whole "under the pillow thing"...it's CRAZY, right?" and I'm like "Well, don't get all huffy with ME over it!" and she's all up in face like "I'll huff anywhere I WANT?", so I'm all back up in HER grill like "Huff THIS!"

After that, it just got ugly.

So, I'm thinking "no" on the extra money thing...

Oh, I LOVE doing loose teeth! Ever since I taught summer camp & daycare, I've had my own special tooth pulling string that I save for such occasions. I just let the kid do a loop around the tooth that looks like the ribbons people pin to their shirt, then I just pull both sides as fast as possible, closing the loop and taking out that last little bit. Quick, easy and virtually painless (and easy entertainment for the whole class). Then they get to go downstairs and get the nifty treasure box to keep their tooth in from the nurse! :-)

They are the cutest little treasure boxes. Just big enough for a tooth, or a really, really, really, really x 100 little stamp and log book.
