The rates listed are for parcels. Check out the links below.

Seems most of our PLBs may just fit the "flats" category. Might have to spread the contents out in a single level to keep "uniform thickness" and keep under 3/4" thick. Of the three boxes that I have on my desk right now, all would fit the "flat" specs.

Here's a link for the new category specs:

Well, I'm sure some PLBers will think twice about what goes into their mailers. Most padded mailers measure 1/4 inch empty. Of the last dozen & a half I mailed out this week only one (an inch ring stamp) would have qualified as a flat. I would hate to see the loss of creativity in logbooks due to a concern about package width. I'll pay the extra cost. I can see plain logs in the wild and I truely love to see new, creative logbook ideas.

How do you go about getting set up for this? Do you have them available for the mail carrier when they come by or do you still have to drop them off at the post office?

I bought my scale from the PO. It was cheaper than any office supply place I went. I get mine ready and take them and drop them off at the Po, but you can give them to your carrier to take.

If you are not using Paypal, let me tell you that I'm starting to LOVE the convenience of this!

I picked up a scale at Wally World (aka Walmart) and now I don't even have to go out if I don't want to. My mailman can take my PLBs or I can drop them in any mail box. There's a big blue mail box just a block away (in front of the hospital) so after I tape the printed label to the envelopes, I just ride over on my bike and drop the packages.

DC is included but that's turning out to be an ok thing. It costs just 14 cents so the savings is really awesome. There's no reason to think that the discount won't continue after the new rates go into effect either. Speaking of which, they calculate the postage for me, so when everything updates - it'll have the new rates for me. I may take a few to the post office at first just to be sure about which categories to put our PLBs into.

I can track what I've mailed online with a lot of information available. (see below for an example) There's no need to keep track of the little slips of paper either since it's all organized online for me. The history is kept as well so that I can go back and review what I've done.

If you are not using this service, check it out. You'll need an account, but they are free, so it's a win win! Paypal Shipping

This has been a PLB Postal Service Announcement. No children were harmed in the production of this announcement. We do not use animal testing for our services. While we do harm trees by using paper, we try hard to take care of the trees that we have left by mailing our letterboxes rather than planting them at the foot of some unsuspecting tree. Not that there's anything wrong with that either, if you are into that sort of thing. *Corporate Smile*

Quote I'm starting to LOVE the convenience of this

I used paypal shipping for the first time yesterday myself. I can definately see myself falling in love with the convenience as well. I was getting kinda tired of going to the PO. Also, after the recent survey, I was going to stop using DC even though I was quite nervous about doing so. With paypal, I don't have a choice, so it takes the decision out of my hands. I will still have my piece of mind, but at a much lower cost.
