Quote I think that is a great idea - for things like postals and PT's. NOT for traditional boxes.

Code gets ugly when I start putting in lots of exceptions, and the documentation becomes even worse! Technically, I could distinguish between non-traditional boxes and traditional boxes, but in the long run, it causes confusion. "I can see the clues on this post-dated box, but not this other one. Why not?"

I need to "idiot proof" features. (Idiot-proof does not mean so idiots can use the site--but so people can use the site without additional help just by 'feeling' their way through.) People don't read documentation so I have to make the site feel as consistent as possible.

-- Ryan, happily making post-dated boxes available -- if you have posted clues you don't want available, now's the time to take them off! =)

Quote No offense Ryan, but I DON'T have my own PT's marked as finds and I DON'T see them on the event page - like the Columbus Cluez-In for example. They are not post-dated either. So you are wrong. :)

Don't make me log into your account, young lady.

You marked those boxes as to be ignored, that's why they aren't showing up for you. If you stopped ignoring them, they'd show up just fine. ;o)

Thanks for that. I was getting ....erm confused and maybe scared on where I thought this convo was going.

While I don't make a habit of post dating anything (PREdating is more my thing..ahem);p

...the very few times I've found it necessary to post date were either because of an upcoming event or while working with another boxer on a series in which the boxes were very, very interlinked for clue purposes (and not just online, but in each actual logbook) and we were sooooo afraid our series name would be snagged which we'd been working on for over 6 months, so we decided to "save a place" 14 times! until everything was ready to go and the actual clues up. A special case to be sure, but a nice option to have! On more than one occasion I've planted a box, gone home to list clues just to find name taken - on LbNA anyway - with almost no renaming options as a result. Learned a lot about alternatives in the process..

If anyone cares, this is the series:

As always Ryan, thanks for being so accommodating in giving us tools to work with. Any interest in wielding cleaning implements? I'm nearing the end of my move and well, if only I could clone the kinda helpful you are...right about now.

I now return to your regularly scheduled psuedo bickering session between GT and TG.....with chadams playing referee...

Quote so we decided to "save a place"

Why do you need to do this? I've heard people say they were saving a name before. I have often listed a name someone else has already got, and it doesn't prevent someone else using the same name again.

For example if you search for 'Santa' you will find 3 boxes, 'Rudolph' 2 boxes, 'Sunny Days' 3 boxes etc. It is a bit inevitable that people are going to use the same names without realising it, not to mention those who plant without listing on the internet.
