Quote But it does give me an idea to allow a new option on the Advanced Search page that allows people to return results ONLY for boxes that actually have clues listed.

Gosh, I just love my code. =) Back in the old days, it probably would have taken ALL DAY--maybe even SEVERAL--to add a "little" change like this. Ever since I revamped the code that deals with searches, though--beautiful. Mere minutes and it's already working. I uploaded the changes (alas, one person caught me doing the update--sorry about that blue screen of death to the person who caught me!) and it's up and working. =)

You may now remove any boxes without a clue from your Advanced Searches by checking the "Show only clued boxes" option.

Now that this is an option, I might add, it's NOT recommended that you put a message in the clue area saying the "clue is coming soon" or some such thing. Unless you're actually providing a clue, don't use the clue option. Let people skip clueless boxes if they want to. And if you don't want them to skip your box, then include a real clue! =)

I've been reading this thread with interest since I just posted a mystery box this weekend that is definitely non-specific. I have only planted 20 boxes, but 5 of them would be considered mystery (including one bonus box). I find that the longer we box, the more we like to change up how we write clues. I like to think that there's something for everyone just in the 20 we've planted. Some we walk you right to the box, and some take a little research, and my newest takes even more!

I have only solved a couple of mystery boxes myself... mostly because there aren't a lot in our area yet. But I really LIKE and appreciate them being listed here on AQ, even if there's no clue. Although it's not important to many people who share this crazy passion, we really like to log our finds online.

Quote I honestly think it is sort of a rip off to those who carefully come up with a mystery that is a great solving/brainteaser when others can just say hey there's a mystery out there, no clues, nothing to solve, but hey my p count is up whether you stumble upon it or not!

Even though I log everything on AQ, mostly since I send a message to everyone whose box I found, I do not consider AQ logs as my actual find count. I keep my own. It does not include event boxes that were left on tables whether the planter listed them as traditional or not.

My p-count doesn't really get me anything. I just list boxes so that others can log them.

As for boxes without clues, frequently there is a clue, just not necessarily on AQ. All of mine actually have clues-- they are just WOM. I have 2 that are possible to "stumble upon". I've had very positive comments from both of them. I enjoy the stories I get from people that find them this way. They do, however, actually have clues. If you "stumble upon" one and do not wish to list it as part of your personal f-count numbers or not log it that is up to you.

If you are curious about a box you see listed and it frustrates you, ask the planter about it. You may not get any additional info, but then again, you might. No harm in asking-- as long as you are okay with not always getting an answer. I've gotten a lot of info. I would not have otherwise gotten by asking...

I have to say I whole heartedly agree with the above quote from The Wolf Family...if I've gone to the trouble to be purposefuly evasive in my clue, then that's what I've intended to do...PLEASE ask for clarification if you'd like, but be ok with the answer you get...you never know if you just might get a surprise while out boxing someday!

Quote ONLY because it was suggested on one of these boards that it is a good way to reserve your boxes name.

There's not really any official way to "reserve" a name for a box. People will name their boxes anything they want whether you like it or not. =)

I must have missed the thread, but I'd definitely discourage people from listing boxes without clues simply to reserve the name of a box. If you want to reserve the name, plant the box first. ;o)

I thought it was a good idea when I read the idea...in fact, I still do, though I respect your opinion to disagree.

That is not to say that I would enter a box with only a name. My Lb's are ready to go, just looking for a home. That is also not to say I would do it again.

Like I've said before, I'm not wrapped around the axle about the count numbers, it's all fun to me.
