Who was that man?

My kids and I finally got a break from taking pretty much round the clock care of my father-in-law to go enjoy an afternoon of letterboxing. Rumpledoodle and I were so excited to get a chance to enjoy our favorite hobby. We decided on Claudia and Alex's "Chinese Symbols" just because we could get a fix and (hopefully) get three boxes for our totals.

On our walk towards the first box a man, late forties, dark hair and sunglasses was walking a black poodle towards us. As he passed us, he asked "looking for Heffalumps and Woozles?"

(if you hadn't noticed before this, look at our trailname)

I was stunned for a second. I thought maybe he recognized us as local letterboxers and maybe I didn't recognize him and answered, "Well, we are friends of Heffalumps" thinking maybe he would respond with something else that would tell me if he knew us or not. He just answered as he kept walking, "well, watch out for woozles out there."

After he passed, I gave us a good lookover to see if we had any Pooh clothing or something that would prompt the remark. We didn't have anything like that on. It was so bizarre! I only had on the generic backpack with our letterboxing supplies and the clue clutched in my hand. I suppose it could be a bizarre coincidence that we would get asked that, but I just have to ask....any of you out around Mercer Slough in Bellevue today?

'Twasn't us! (Although I did use the phrase "That icky sticky stuff is only good for Heffalumps and Woozles" today when I was talking about kissing with my 14 year old cousin!)

We had a close encounter of the boxing kind of our own today. We were logging into the first box of Litter Boxer's "Celebration of Spring" series when I heard someone behind us say, "I guess we aren't the first finders!" Startled, I whipped around to face Team Garlic! All of us Gryffindors were kerflummexed to run into another group on the hunt... it's never happened before. I'm afraid we weren't very eloquent! Plus, since we just got back from a trip to CA, I had taken our "just in case" cootie out of our bag and didn't have it there to pass along! Hmmph!!!! (And I had a perfect opportunity... suffice it to say it involved a bunch of hungry geese and a hunk of bread.)

Small letterboxing world, isn't it?

That's TOO weird! Maybe just a coincidence??

Someone once left me a message in one of my box's logbook that stopped me in my tracks - how on earth could this random boxer know the name of my cat?! Was I being stalked??

Re-reading the message again, I realized that the note was referring to something else entirely! So in the end, I had a hearty laugh and chalked it up to coincidence.

By the way, even with 160+ finds and 40 plants, we've never run into other boxers out on the trails... you'd think eventually we would, right?

Anyhoo, I vote for random coincidence!

Well, DK had fun feeding the bread to the geese, while we sat on a bench for a long time waiting for all the other people who suddenly appeared after you left to go away so we could replace.

It was nice seeing you on the trail!

I just had lunch with APG Greetings here in Seattle and I specifically took along two cooties hoping to drop one on her and I completely forgot to do so!! Aaaargh, oh well, another time :-)
