Ok, so something better suited for a mini-gathering?

They don't make themselves! =) But yes, I'd be much more inclined to make them on occasion for mini-gatherings. I don't see myself making them for large gatherings anymore. 'Tis a lot of work. *nodding* Well, the first time I made them I made mistakes along the way which I've learned from, but they're still a lot of work.

I'm curious now... how did you make them?

I mean, I'm aware that just about anything that's made in a manufacturing process can be made by hand, but what did you use for the scratch off goo, stuff, schnizzle (for lack of a better word).

Tee (who didn't see them but would be interested in making some for this or another event - maybe even a scout thingie or three)

You can buy the scratchy stuff in sheets. Cut them to the size you want, peel off the back (which is sticky), and slap it on. It's called a "scratch sticket." I'm not sure if that's a generic term for it or a brand name, but I found it at the local stamp store here in West Seattle.

A google search found this site which sells them: http://www.goldingcraft.com/scratchs.htm (I am not affiliated with this site nor have I ever bought anything from them.)

They're fun to play with. =)

Ryan originally bought these scratch-off thingys to make a gift for me. :-) It was for my birthday or valentines one year (I can't remember which) and he made a romantic scratch off lottery ticket for me. Very cute! and very original.
So we have had that stuff sitting around the house for quite a while until he found another use for it!

I love the idea of them....I have so many ideas to use them for already....just need to find it.

Quote Candles when do I get the candles????

Candles are for the DEVOUT and INSANE, not the mere Premium Hat wearer. It's not EVERY psycho that can hold the office of High Priestess of AQ, so you might not be cut out for this. Do you HAVE the ceremonial pillow or pimp hat? Do you know how to offer a sacrifice to the AQ gods with only a horsefly and a lighter? Do you have a copy of the Holy Book of Speedball? Do you have a devoted acolyte (read: henpecked husband) to do your ultimate AQ bidding, such as light the candles daily by noon with his own BLOOD (okay, I'm making that up...it's more like 12:30 or so)?

Again, it's a MASSIVE commitment (read: I should be committed) that you can't just take lightly. Think this over for a few days and we'll send some pamphlets on the Second Carving to you to peruse. (nods with eyes VERY wide so as to see all the AQness in the world and absorb it before anyone else does)

All right, teacher geeks, 'splain these to me:

Why...

...do caregivers do the same thing as caretakers?
...do we say bye-bye, but not hi-hi?
...do drugstores make sick people walk all the way to the back to buy medicine, but you can buy cigarettes right up front?
...is the the third hand on a watch the "second" hand?
...do slim chance and fat chance mean the same thing?
...is a near hit the same as a near miss, but to overlook is not the same as to oversee?
...do things burn up when they burn down?
...do you fill out a form by filling it in?
...are things typed up, but written down?
...is the work done by doctors and lawyers called "practice"?
...are things defined by what they are NOT? Have you ever seen someone who was ruly, piccable, gruntled or combobulated? Is there such a thing as a functional family or a membered body?

If blind people wear sunglasses, why don't deaf people wear earmuffs?
What do vegetarians eat? What about humanitarians?
Where does peanut oil come from? Corn oil? Baby oil?
If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?
If there is an exception to every rule, what is the exception to THAT rule?
Why is it called a DRIVE THRU if you have to stop?
Why do we scrub down, but wash up?
What is the opposite of "out of whack"?
If a cow laughed hard enough, would milk squirt out of her nose?
I've been overwhelmed, AND underwhelmed, but I can't recall ever being just whelmed.
Did God put woodpeckers on the Ark? Where?
If you don't pay your excorcist, do you get re-possessed?
Why do overalls have belt loops?
When the stars are out, they're visible, but when the lights are out, they're not!
When you wind up a watch, you're starting it, but when you wind up speech, you're ending it.
If Jimmy cracked corn and no one cared, why is there a song about him?

I got carried away. I'm sorry.

How do you light candles with blood?
I've been using matches, but that's just not ceremonial enough.

Teacher Geek, reporting for duty!

Why...

...do caregivers do the same thing as caretakers? They don't. Caregivers work with humans or animals. Caretakers work with the inanimate or locations.

...do we say bye-bye, but not hi-hi? Uh...dunno. Next!

...do drugstores make sick people walk all the way to the back to buy medicine, but you can buy cigarettes right up front? If the sick people walk all the way back, they get the chance to share their germs with the maximum number of customers, thus increasing sales. Smokers, on the other hand, need quick access to maximize their opportunities to contract cancer, and thus become one of the sick people. Get it? Good. :)

...is the the third hand on a watch the "second" hand? Silliness, really. It counts the seconds. Why are they seconds? Really, I have NO clue.

Skipping the next several, as it would require that I break out the Google window.
...do slim chance and fat chance mean the same thing?
...is a near hit the same as a near miss, but to overlook is not the same as to oversee?
...do things burn up when they burn down?
...do you fill out a form by filling it in?

...are things typed up, but written down? Aha! I know half of this one. Things are typed *up* because a typewriter rolled the paper UP as you worked. Yes, I know, you moved down the page, but the PAPER went up!

More skippage...
...is the work done by doctors and lawyers called "practice"?
...are things defined by what they are NOT? Have you ever seen someone who was ruly, piccable, gruntled or combobulated? Is there such a thing as a functional family or a membered body?

If blind people wear sunglasses, why don't deaf people wear earmuffs? Deaf people DO wear earmuffs, silly. Blind folks wear sunglasses for the same reasons sighted folks do. The light bothers them. They want to appear cosmetically better than they do without the glasses. Deaf folks wear earmuffs just like the hearing..when they have cold ears!

*snip* (With good reason. I simply don't KNOW those answers, so there)

If Jimmy cracked corn and no one cared, why is there a song about him? The lyrics don't claim that no one cared. They state that the singer doesn't care. Obviously, someone else cared :)

I just LOVE sleep deprivation, don't you?

Okay, the teacher geek in me is going to butt in here:

"Jimmy Crack Corn" is a corrupted form of gimcrack corn, a homemade corn whiskey. The song, "Blue Tail Fly" is an African-American folk song dating to about 1845. "Jimmy Crack Corn and I don't care / My master's gone away" means that the slaves are drinking and celebrating because their cruel master has died.

BTW, "Blue Tail Fly" was Abraham Lincoln's favorite song.
