Must See Live
Board: Musical Musings
Apr 7, 2007 10:19am
I'm gearing up to see The Flaming Lips on Thursday at the House of Blues in Orlando, which means I'm going to be able to scratch another name off of my "Must See Before They Die/Break Up or I Die" list.
Some of the acts on the list are:
Tom Waits
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
<strike>Bob Dylan</strike>
The Flaming Lips
<strike>Henry Rollins</strike>
Sigur Ros
William Shatner
Wilco
It doesn't help that most of the musicians I want to see live are already dead, (Woody Guthrie, Thelonious Monk, most of the Ramones).
I was wondering what everyone else's "must see" musical acts happen to be.

My hubby had the good fortune of seeing the Ramones in NY three weeks before Joey died at a publishing party.
Mr Yuk - David Eugene Edwards is an amazing guy. If you came out here to Colorado you could see Woven Hand, Slim Cessena's Auto Club (who put on an amazing live show), and Devotchka, Tarentella, and the Denver Gentlemen.... pretty darn regularly. (Plus you would be Rocky Mountain high, where the oxygen is lacking, but the boxes are plenty)
I would like to see:
Radiohead (again)
Bright Eyes
David Bowie (again)
Metric
Nick Cave
I would have loved to seen:
The Beatles (I know, I know)
Johnny Cash
Patsy Cline

I saw Bowie with NIN in the mid-nineties and then again two years ago with Polyphonic Spree. Both shows were amazing - he is classic!!

My dad was at the album release of Darkside of the Moon, he said it was one of the greatest experiences of his life.
The Allman Brothers would also be a great band to see. Good choice.

Anthro:
I've seen Slim Cessna's Auto-Club, and they do give an amazing show. I may have to come out to Colorado to gather up some boxes and see Woven Hand. That would be a good use of all my airline miles. Maybe in a couple months I'll plan to come out, we can meet up and box and go see some shows if you wish.

I saw the Pixies on their last tour - it was pretty quick and dirty - but it was still THE PIXIES!!!! I do really want to see Modest Mouse - I just wish I would have seen them four years ago - when a small venue would have done just fine.... :-)

yes, the trick is see them when they are "young" in smaller venues. I remember a friend saying "lets go see the chilli peppers", but i didnt care for them yet, and i missed out on seeing a little known group you might have heard of called Nirvana opening up...cest la ve.

Saw NIN when Pretty Hate Machine came out but wasnt impressed w/live show...maybe they've improved?!? But it was great a great show when Trent toured w/ Pigface ( with members of PIL, Ministry, Killing Joke, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks etc), saw them in a tiny place near San Fran. WOW!
