Ijust got back from NC late last night and so I did not see this historic moment in Red's history! Eric Davis was a baseball hero but it sounds like he got challenged!!!

Just before I left for a few days, my small Eagle Creek bag got stolen and I"m sure the fools thought that it was my purse. Oh no! It was my smallest letterboxing stash with my signature stamp, my dog's sig stamp, my logbook, markers, stamp pads, my AAA card and some cash?! boooo

Got some great things accomplished as far as getting help from other soldiers to get some supplies my son needs in Afghanistan....

and then tried to sneak in some boxes while I was there BUT MY DOG GOT BITTEN by a DANG snake! Yeah. Thanks to a few folks who really helped me out....Gunner is okay for sure, but we stayed in the emergency animal clinic until LATE that night and it sort of put a halt (for the very first time) on my drive to hunt boxes!! Apparently it was either a copperhead who did not get his fangs into my dog's nose OR it is a type of snake that imitates the type of copperheads there. It very much looked like a rattlesnake. I made sure to get a very good look at it as it was trying to strike a second time so that I could describe it to the vet.

So that was on an 87 degree-record-breaking day in NC....followed by BITTER cold the next there too. It was so cold, that I had just bought a down filled awesome North Face jacket almost 50% off on that 87 degree day down there.....only to put it on at the top of Pilot Mtn the next day! I was the only one dressed warm enough to stay up there more than 5 minutes!

BTW...did the Red's win the game???

Sounds like quite an (mis)adventure. Hopefully all is well with stamps and the dog.

I just wanted to say that copperheads in Georgia look NOTHING like the ones in Ohio so it really may not have "looked right" in NC either. We have checked them out in nature centers and such and still can't believe it is the same snake we are "used to"...

You are sooo right! I kept saying that it could not have been a copperhead because I got a super close and good look at it and it did not look like the copperheads (in Ohio) nor did it smell like one either, but then the vet explained that based on my description, that is what they look like in NC?!

lol I just went back and updated my profile tonight to add to the one question about what is the worse hardship experienced while looking for a letterbox......and noticed that I had also written a good year ago or so, that my worst fear was to run into a copperhead on the trail?! Okay! Put a big honkin' check mark in THAT column!!

Gunner is doing well and I'm soooo grateful for that! :)

if you don't like the weather just wait 10 minutes; it'll change.

Hey, this is what we say about the UP of MI. The first time I took my better half toa 4th of July up in the Yoop, it was 32 degrees and my parents had to run the heat for my poor lil ol southern girl(not to mention I was freezing also)...But as the arabs say "Inshallah"..
Be Safe...

Sorry to hear that some slime stole your boxing bag...the Jerk. Glad to hear that Gunnar is going to be fine...2/3's of the copperhead bites are dry bites(where they do not inject venom), but you can never be too safe or sure. My betterhalf and babies have been spotted in the area of the cabin fever reliever...so be on the look out...Be Safe
