5 Years later, letterbox found

There are often threads from folks wondering when, oh when is someone going to find my letterbox. "I just planted it and no one is going out to find it!!"

Well, I planted a mystery letterbox in 2002 and today I just got an email from someone who found the box and they were the first finders!! The first finder prize that I put in the box 5 years ago was still there!

So to all you guys who are so impatient! Can't wait 5 days, 5 weeks for someone to go out and hunt for your box, I say just wait a little while longer. Someone will find it eventually. :-)

This is a letterbox that is very far from my home and from the places that I normally visit. I did go back to this area in 2005 and double checked that the box was alive and well at that time (and had had no visitors) but again, that was 2 years ago.

Whew, but it is a wonderful feeling that someone finally found this poor lonely box. I just hope the first finder doesn't put a hitchhiker in there! It might be waiting for 5 more years.

Wow, that's really cool! It must be in a REALLY safe place if it hasn't been disturbed in 5 years. Would you be willing to share the name of this elusive letterbox?

It is the Lewis and Clark Mystery Letterbox, Jefferson Peace Medal.

The intrepid first finder was Eidolon! Congrats to Eidolon!!

I must also say that the box suffered some damage after 5 years in the wilds and needless to say, Eidolon is going to be doing some maintenance for me. There was some leakage and the unused log was a sodden mess. Just goes to show that this can happen even if folks are not opening and closing the box all the time. I might have used a cheap box too. I don't think I was aware of lock-n-locks back then! :-)

Well...that means I can narrow it down to about a half a dozen areas....lol...not that I plan on traveling that way any time soon.

Yeah...he like to do those that appear to be 'un-do-able' or missing or what-have-you. Don't let him fool you though, he WILL ask for help solving the thing if he needs it...lol...

Well, Eidolon is focused and dedicated....and maybe a bit obsessed? LOL
When you box with flashlights and the boxes aren't night boxes.....well, what would you call that?

That's amazing! I like to check and see when the box was planted before we go searching. My girls get a kick out of the fact that some of the LBs have been "out there" for years...well, so do I! Makes me wish I found out about all this a LOT sooner!

Survival of the fittest. The weak (and the sane) need not apply!

Thanks goodness, now I know there is still hope for our boxes that we planted a few months ago and no one has found yet. Thanks for sharing that with us Amanda. I can be patient.
