Oh boy did I goof.
I guess I have a legitimate excuse being up at 2 am Wed.
then 3 am Thurs. on our drive back to Canada. Well, on our last leg we
decided to attempt a PNW box, Candle in The Wind. I was proudly wearing my PNW
letterboxing shirt. I had picked up the box with the kids and snuck it to the vehicle
to stamp in. On my way to return the box I happened to see someone looking a bit perplexed,
standing by their vehicle, they looked around then kind of sat on the drivers seat with the door open.
Just then I noticed a bumper sticker, Not all who wander are lost J.R. Tolkien.
"cool" I thought. I shouted from the back "I like your bumper sticker!" Now I am really thinking they are a boxer who has just unsuccessfully attempted the box (which is now hiding inside my shirt".
Not only that I am kind of ecxited to think I finally get to meet a real boxer on the 'trails'. She comes out looks at me kind of funny. I turn and show her my back. I wait, she smiles. So I boldy say, "are you a letterboxer?" A very queet look comes over here face. "letterboxer? what's that?" Oh man, I can't believe it...silly me, she obviously is just a plain old wanderer. She didn't sound tor eceptive and mmy kids are impatiently waiting for mom to put the stamp back. They want to get home, we have been away from home for 6 weeks. So I shrug and say, "oh it's a hobby." I then walked away, I tell you she watched me like a hawk. I felt so silly, I had to walk around looking real dumb, kicking leaves, then turn with my back to the hiding spot, distract her with moving my arm in front of my in the dirt, while the hidden arm reached around behind and placed the box back in it's hiding place.
so...if ever you meet a lady driving a silver SUV with that bumper sticker be sure to go up grin and say
"I like your bumper sticker, are you a letterboxer?" Then walk away backwards.

That's great! Funhog has a similar story about "Not all who wander are lost..." These shirts lead apparently lead to interesting encounters.

The Letterboxing Workshop Event stamp made it home safe and sound along with my California patch. Thanks! And thanks to everyone in San Diego who logged in. I've thoroughly enjoyed looking through your stamps.

"Not all who wander are lost..."

I still regret having outgrown my sauntering t-shirt. Fits my teen. He makes a point to wear it often :p

"Tis a fine art to saunter"

Well, you tried!
Hope you got home safe and sound.

I have always wondered, when did the "those" drop out of
"Not all those who wander are lost?"

I can understand the letterboxers changing it to be shorter, but as you saw, even the Tolkien fan merchandise leaves it out.

I found this last night while looking for photos of "fuzzy yellow chicks" to add to the Marjorie's Adventures photo album...

And people say that letterboxers are weird...
