Missing Box - whine alert!

WARNING - WHINE BELOW:

After a tip from a local boxer, I went to check on one of my boxes today (Going Fishing....Soon) and it appears to be missing. Although I know this is part of letterboxing, I'm a bit bummed - this was Baby Fox's "special box" (but she's over it - lol!!). It was in a rather public place, and had I found it today, I was going to replant it somewhere else.

The rather funny thing is, that a very nearby geocache was there, completely full of junk (sorry, geocachers, but it was!). And who would use dental floss found in a geocache - I had to laugh - it did lighten the moment! And there was tons of trash all around - including a lot of bottles that had formerly held various liquids only purchased by adults. All those bottles lying around everywhere, and my box has to disappear!!

But it does seem as if an underbrush cleaning project is going on, and perhaps the box fell victim to that - although it's too bad they don't have a trash cleaning project going on as well!!!

This is the third box I've had go missing this winter - time to work on my hiding skills, I guess. And I have this horrible cold, so everything seems worse than it really is!

WHINE OVER!

I am going to plant another box in that park (Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary) but not the same one - so stay tuned, local boxers ;-)) - a new box will be coming this spring!!

Bummer! We haven't made it to Beaver Lake yet so it looks like we missed it. :(

I just replaced 3 of my boxes this month and all three I ended up moving the location and making the boxes smaller.

That is a bummer....but still a great place to hide a box or two....

It's important to note that homeless folks hang out there a lot...and they seem to deposit their refuse under the boardwalk at just about every place you can sit down.

It's tough to get off the path here....and you have to take care where you plant a box because when the wetlands fill up with water soon...the box might wash away....

But I would say that hiding them under the boardwalk is askin' for it to disappear....

I'm sorry again.....

Agreed - but that darn geocache has been there like a year and a half and it's under the boardwalk - go figure. Maybe people are as frightened by the dental floss as I was and drop it and run (still laughing.......!!).

I spotted some areas toward the parking area that will provide more cover, and less of a threat of flooding. An idea I've had for a while, and will probably never do, is to suspend a waterproof container from the boardwalk, and people would have to pull it up out of the water - lol!! But the best place for that - today - had very little water in it - a box would have been exposed by now. Some day I'll find the place for that ;-))

Thanks for alerting me to the box's disappearance - I hate for people to go look for a box that isn't there, and like to keep my stuff as updated as possible.

I'm going to go start carving.....something!
