Oh, much plotting... er... I mean, planning is under way...
I'll be planting some boxes out there this weekend.
Then I have a SUPER GREAT ORION box just for the event (I asked for it and she generously loaned it to me for the day). If you have not seen an Orion carving and hand-made logbook you are in for a treat!
My 11 yr old son has an amazing box just for the event too with AMAZING carvings in it from carvers all over the nation (oh, people have been sooo generous in helping him with this plan!).
I intend to be there Friday night-- campfire or something. Death Hunter will be available for a night hunt (it can be hunted the next day as well but the Friday night people get an early release of the clues). Orion's box will be available to hunt and enjoy then -- it takes some time to go through the very clever logbook so having time to enjoy it before the "rush" of the next day is good.
There's the possibility of a "mystery" 'boxer on the trail (someone who doesn't attend events but I may leave the clues for this person in an undisclosed location). It may be fun to see if you recognize the signature stamps in the logbooks in the newly released boxes (the locals will recognize the stamp).
There is also the debut of something new at this event (at least in the SE as far as I know-- I secured permission from the creator) -- think "backwards"-- simple but it should be very fun. *grin*
I also just got an INCREDIBLY AMAZING ARCHIMEDES' SCREW box!! I didn't think it was coming but it came today! My intent is to plant it at Latta, but I may wait and plant it temporarily at Waxhaw. Did I mention how wonderfully generous 'boxers have been?!
Now that's just what I have planned and I'm not even the host.... Though I may be it on Friday night. If you have ideas you'd like for Friday night, fire away!
I think I can speak on 3M's behalf on this one: MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

My sister (Shoafsters) and I absolutely cannot wait. And of course the little ones (7 and 6), boy and girl. They were hoping we could get them some cootie shirts before then, but we'll just have to see about all that.
She and I both have 2 boxes apiece we will be bringing to plant and leave if we can just find good parents for them afterwards.
You'll see by the titles of them how polar opposite we are. Hers are so polite and simple: upsidedown and backwards. But, of course, mine have to be so out of the ordinary: backsidedown and upwards. (Hope no one minds a little potty humor!!)
And cooties, that's what our primary focus has been over the last few months. We've already seen each other's, so I guess you could say we are fair game for all of yours. But, fair warning --- Our little ones are ready to get in on the action too.

As with McDowell, any boxes left in Waxhaw I will assist in maintaining. I'm an hour away but I may be the closest one to the location (and I'll have several boxes I will be maintaining there afterwards. After the event you can transfer the box to me as the owner so I will get all reports on it (and so will you as the planter and carver) or just e-mail me if you get a report on it and it needs assistance. I maintain most of the boxes in Mecklenburg and Union County whether I'm the owner or not-- just happy to help. :) Plus I love to see an area seeded with lots of different carving styles!
I'm more toward the not-so-polite so I have no doubt I'll appreciate your humor (hey, I live in a household of males!). ;)

I thought of something else for the kids:
an Easter egg stamp/sticker hunt. I'm thinking that it will be just stamps in the eggs (no logbooks). I may put the image on stickers so the younger ones don't have to mess with ink. The stamp would be there for those that wanted it that way.

I am so bummed to not be able to go to this! My parents live in Charlotte and we live in Raleigh so it would totally be a do-able weekend - BUT we have nonchangeable, in concrete plans.
It sounds like so much fun - we love to camp too!!!
Maybe next year .....
