New grandmother here...

Hi, I'm just excited and have to share.

I haven't quite gotten used to the idea of becoming a grandmother yet (after all, I'm just 43 and have elementary-aged children of my own). Ready or not, though, I am now officially a grandmother as of about an hour ago. My grown son's wife just delivered a healthy baby boy, and we are all psyched about it! 8-) Plus, the baby's middle name is going to be my maiden name. Awww...

My daughters are going to be so excited when they get home from school--they have been looking forward to becoming aunts. My son and his wife live a couple of hours away, so I have to get all of our schedules coordinated and get over there ASAP! 8-)

Any other "youngish" grandmas or grandpas out there?

I have a grandson that is seven weeks old and when he was born I was 42, have since turned ....ack ... 43. My daughter is 21 and I had her when I was 21. Kind of wierd I will say being a grandma this young. I also have a 10 year old boy. Seems as though we are having babies around here about every 10 years. Guess that beats yearly though. (smile) He will call me Nana instead of grandma because that sounds toooo old. (laughing) Congrats on your little bundle and I know what a proud GRANDMA you are.

I am about 2 months away from being a "youngish" grandpa (45). Our youngest, Katie, is 6, and is extremely excited about being an Aunt... she was a little worried at first about the tremendous responsibility of Aunthood, and wasn't sure she could handle it, but we assured her she wasn't TOTALLY responsible for the nephew's upbringing. She won't have to change diapers; just help him with his letters and numbers, sing him some songs, and play with him - she was okay with all that!

Congratulations to you!

Congratulations! The Grandmas seem to get younger all the time. 43 is not too far off for me but since my oldest is 10, I figure I'll have a while to wait yet. But I figure it's great to be a young Grandma 'cause then you'll have all that time and energy to give him.

Thanks for sharing the happy news!

Well, I feel youngish. I was just barely 52 when granddaughter #1 was born, and I'll be almost 54 when the next one arrives in April. My mother always told me that spoiling the grandkids was her job, and I am trying to follow in her footsteps. My Mom was always concerned that she couldn't keep up with the material spoiling of the 'other' sets of grandparents, but I could see that it's your time that really spoils them and that is what they remember. I can't wait until I can take Mia to the Children's Symphony--that girl loves music. Enjoy the little bundle. Almost nothing feels as good as a baby sleeping in your arms.
Congratulations.

Thanks, guys! My mother and sister went by to see him last night and he is, of course, extremely handsome according to them. 8-)
