I'm just reading these posts about stalking mailmen, and I just have to laugh! I've had a postal nightmare for the last couple of weeks (since February vacation week), and this has brightened up my day!

I too stalk my mailwoman whenever I'm home when she delivers. She thinks it's hilarious that I ask whether I have a package every day. Though she never asks why.......... ANYWAY......

Before Christmas, the mailbox that is attached to my house (we have them attached to the house, since our houses are close enough together for the mailwoman to walk between them) rusted and the top and bottom fell out of it. So, I bought a new one at Home Depot, and got it home. The holes are different.... grrrrrr..... This means that I need to caulk up the holes and make a new filler strip for the house etc...... Of course, then it gets cold and I can't caulk the old holes to make it look nicer, and hadn't put the new filler strip up. For the last three months, my mailbox has been sitting just outside of my front door on the step near the railing. Until February vaca week, it wasn't a problem, UNTIL.......

my mailwoman goes on vacation and this OTHER mailman is delivering my mail. He decides to not deliver the mail to the house, because the mailbox is not SECURELY fastened to the house. Grrrrrr....... So, I call the post offfice to see why we didn't have mail delivery for two days. They say nothing. The following week, she delivers a few days of mail on Monday. Fast forward a few days to Thursday, when she is off from work. SAME mailman refuses to deliver the mail. Post office finally calls back to tell me that they are refusing to give me my mail until the mailbox is fastened to the house. They were expecting me to stop by the main post office (huge post office with long lines mind you) and get my mail EVERY DAY until my mailbox is put up on the house.

So, this past weekend on the one nicer day we've had in months, I'm out there caulking the house and painting the area where the old box was, hoping that the temperature was high enough so that the caulk and paint wouldn't peel off of the house in the cold weather, and putting up the darn mailbox so that the RELIEF mailman would give me my mail. So I see the regular mailwoman on Saturday afternoon as I am doing this..... the first thing she says is, "You know that I wasn't the one who complained right? I don't care whether the mailbox is on the house.... but it looks nice up there!"

So, now I can get my mail again without grief and continue to stalk my regular mail carrier!

ROFL.... Not funny at the time, but funny as heck to read =o)

Our problem here seems to be getting the relief mailwoman to pick UP our mail. The problem? Well, here we have these mass mailboxes at the end of our streets and everyone has a box (looking similar to PO boxes)... there is one outgoing mail slot (barely big enough for a bill but way to small for a birthday card). Well, up until about two years ago we were to put all of our outgoing mail in that tiny slot or stalk the mailman and comvince them to take it because it was too big to fit in the slot. Then, at the beginning of Thanksgiving about two years ago someone started breaking into these outgoing mail slots looking for checks or giftcards, so they sealed up the outgoing slot... Hmmm, now how to mail anything! So, again the stalking of the mailman became more and more common. Then they decided to let us put our out going mail in our little boxes (more convenient as they fit much bigger envelopes), but then recently we got a new relief person and she was refusing to take anything out of the boxes for almost a week. I complained just in time for our regular mailman to return. *sigh*
It still bugs me just a bit that two years later the outgoing mail slot is still sealed (we were assured that it would only last 6 months at the most), but at least now I can put my outgoing postals in the bigger spot... if they decide to take them.

Ah, well... let the good times roll =o)

ho hum... sometimes it really pays to live in the sticks! My dad ripped his mailbox off his post when he was plowing the snow away from it... so our postal lady drove down - honked on the horn and handed my parent their mail... on occasion, they have even opened my front door and dropped mail in my livingroom so it would get soaked (my parents live next door and are retired). Its nice when people take the time to go out of their way to make someone else happy...

And I was happy today... two PLBs in my box! One from a ring that I thought had chronically melted!

It's a lot easier to just marry the mailman. He doesn't even ask if there is anything liquid, toxic, or potentionally dangerous in the envelopes anymore.
