Coptic Stitch logbook supplies for 3/17

I was checking out Hobby Lobby's website last night and I saw scrapbooking papers 50% through TODAY! Hopefully, you will have enough time to get some of these items on sale before March 17th. The sketchpad and bone folder are probably the most expensive items, if you are looking for single items using the Sunday coupons.

I will demonstrate a logbook that is 5.5 x 7.5" because that size feels right to me. You might like something smaller, or larger, so just make adjustments to these items.

You will need:
1. Heavier cardstock or chipboard (2) pieces cut to size (5.5x7.5" or size you prefer). I recycled cardboard and it was fine for my shamrock logbook, but I should have used a stiffer/thicker stock for my June logbook. You will also want to have a piece of cardboard cut the same length as your logbook, in this case, 7.5" and about 1" wide.
2. Cover papers - front and back; complementary papers for inside covers.
3. Book paper - 36 sheets of paper, 11x7.5". I purchased a Strathmore sketch pad of 100 pages. We will make 6 signatures of 6 pages each. Cut paper carefully. I cut them one-by-one using a paper slicer. If you want more pages in your book, add six pages for each signature.
4. Pencil, Ruler, scissors, bone folder, and glue stick.
5. A paper piercer. A standard awl makes pretty large holes; a quilling tool works great.
6. Waxed linen thread - in the jewelry making section next to the hemp rope at Hobby Lobby.
7. Size 18 or 20 needles.

Other helpful supplies -
1. Binder clips - I will bring a box of various sizes.
2. I will bring my paper slicer if there is a need, but I would rather not if someone local can do so.
3. If you are into embellishments and doo-hickeys, bring them along.

We had planned to hit Indy's southside today, but we turned back at SR 1 (Cambridge City). The number of jackknifed semis (one collision of two semis), cars in ditches, and one upside down, we decided not risk the drive. We didn't even have courage to pull off into the rest stop at 144. These were all found within a 10 mile stretch. We even saw a fireman we know, walking on I-70. Tomorrow's weather looks more promising.

If you have any questions about the bookmaking demonstration, please let me know.

I have some wallpaper sample books that would be great for logbook covers! If you want to use those, be my guest! I also have a paper cutter we can use. I will write more later, once I look into my supply stash!

Wallpaper would be great, just need to have a glue that will adhere. Glad you have a paper cutter, because mine is bulky and I always seem to cut myself transporting it (with the safety latch in place).

Okay, what the bleep is a bone folder? And do I truly need one for this demo, or can I use something else that will still do the job? Looking forward to the demo! :)

These are used in bookmaking and will aid in folding multiple sheets of paper (signatures) so they lay better in your book. If you're sure you won't make books after 3/17 and won't ever have the urge to crease paper, you may borrow mine. But, I guarantee, you'll want one! Just use that coupon.

Okay, I got waxed linen thread, a paper piercer, Aleene's Tacky Glue (to glue the wallpaper on the covers), and #18 needles. My local Michael's had no clue what a bone folder was, nor did they know what chip board was. Before going into Michael's, I looked next door (really, next door) at Hobby Lobby and they did not have either one (unless I was looking in the wrong place. This store seems very disorganized to me. If anyone has luck anywhere else near Indy, please let me know.

I'm getting really excited!

I'm sure I bought my bone folder at Hobby Lobby or Michaels in Indy (Eastside). Look in the scrapbooking area, or tell them it's for making books. It feels like ivory (dominoes) and has a flat side and a rounded side with one end coming to a rounded point. I'll be in Indy tomorrow and I'll see what I can spot at Michaels on the southside, since it's not so far from Craig Park. I know they're next to each other! Isn't JoAnn's also within spittin' distance?

Chipboard is another name for the cardboard used to make cereal boxes. You actually can use this cardboard for logbooks, but it isn't the heaviest. Heavy cardstock or coverstock (see office depot, staples, etc) can also be used. If anyone has trouble finding what you like, I will bring my extra stash of recycled cardboard.

speedsquare,

I went to the Hobby Lobby and Michael's on the southside (US 31). I'll try again soon. I will make a stop at Office Depot, too.

When would you like to schedule the demo? After dinner? Here's a very tentative agenda...

12:00-12:30 Arrival/get clues for boxes hidden at the house/drop off contribution for the stone soup

12:30-5:00 Boxing/stamping event stamps/socializing (really whatever floats your boat)

5:00-6:00ish Soup's On!!

6:00ish - ?? Event stamps/socializing/Coptic Stitch Demo/whatever else floats your boat

Everybody sound off on this, please. Have I left something out? Do you want to include something? Is it TOO restrictive? I'm flexible...I'm at your service :-)

I was in Michaels the other day buying one of the Marvie punches folks were talking about on the round logbook thread and found the bold holders to be hanging right there in the punch/ink/stamping/scrapbooking section. I absolutely can't make anything using paper w/o using mine!

Thanks, pre! I'm going to head back out today. You've also reminded me that I wanted to get one of those punches!

Oh happy day!

SW Park is stunning right now with the flooded river frozen over. Yesterday's horizontal snow, temp of 20, windchill in blisteringly cold negatives - what a great time to get Let It Snow! Bring an ink pad for that bad boy, otherwise you'll have time to learn a new language while marker-ing it up.

Something big, like a deer, was crashing around, the trees were knocking against each other, the sun was going down and something larger than a raccoon, but shaped like that or a beaver or nutria, was seaching for food, and kept running in front of us on the trails. Absolutely gorgeous in the park. The sounds were wonderful with the wind howling, the trees knocking against each other, and .. the snow causing that flattened acoustic.

Then there was the fun of the kids yelling "You're a stink butt! I'll get you you stink butt!" from the apartments while we were Inspirin'.

SS, I didn't find your new speedsquare stamp, but the good news is that this time Teepsman didn't get stinking nettled. We just got stink butt! nettled a little later on in the day.

Thanks, mowizliz, for the update. I had a list of 24 locations on the southside and northward to 38th Street. My fair weathered and silent boxing partner wasn't thrilled with the cold winds today either. We are back home now, after finding 11 for 11. We skipped SWW Park again because he couldn't get back to the car and stamp up between finds. The last time we were in that park, there were tornadoes down in Evansville the day before. I recall the winds were there and we were afraid we would be knocked off the ridge. So we'll be back (keeping fingers crossed for next weekend). Did enjoy the icy walk to Four Star this morning.

A few boxes were frozen in place today. And a sincere apology to JBBK2006 for picking up an extra baggie somewhere. It had fallen under my seat and I didn't see it until I got home.

I will have to check on my woodland friends. An unfortunate soul was found in Williams Creek earlier this week. Dh said the media was all over the park and investigators were out looking for a weapon. It still is a favorite park of mine.

On the positive side, I think I have my dh convinced to come with me next time to Louisville. I raved about the Craftsman furniture store on Shelbyville Road and showed him a store brochure. Dad wants me to give him some drawings so he can build us a new dining room buffet that is period to our new home this summer. I see signs that there may have been a built-in years ago, so now we are going to fix it "right." I'll let you know when we plan to return. I told him we MUST find a few letterboxes while we are down in KY. It'll just have to be warmer weather, like Spring Break, maybe?
