Three Stooges

My fiance introduced me to the Three Stooges last night. Said he grew up watching them on the old movie channels and he just couldn't believe I'd never ever seen them! It's nice to know that after 6 years together we're still learning things about each other, lol!!!

Anyways, I grew up without a lot of cable and since there was only one TV in the house hooked up to it, it was what mom and dad wanted to watch. Mom hates the Stooges and Dad prefers Laurel & Hardy (which I've seen a ton of in my life).

These guys are pretty funny, but I didn't like, laugh out loud or anything, so my man thought I didn't like it. I guess it wasn't that I didn't like them, I was just really.... not in the laugh out loud mood I guess. Then of course one of them happened to end up having them dressed up like Nazi's and maybe I didn't quite get the jokes?

Anyone have suggestions for some "better" episodes to check out? The ones we watched were them blowing up a boat and ending up on a Nazi boat and then the other, they were in court and Curly took the stand and made a mess of things and then all three of them "acted out what happened." Sorry I don't know any names or much more than that about them.

I never cared much for the Stooges either while my husbang LOVES them. Maybe it's a guy thing.

I saw a comedian once (can't remember who), that pointed out that mostly (of course, there are exceptions) men like the Three Stooges and women don't.

Don't feel badly that you don't "get" the humor. I grew up watching the Three Stooges on and off (hey, there were only about 7 channels to choose from) because my dad enjoyed the show. I must say that I really didn't enjoy the Stooges either. Don't waste too much time trying to force yourself to like them.

It IS a guy/kid thing. I watched them when I was younger and laughed, but now it's kinda goofy. The Highlander, on the other hand, REALLY loves it. Men are more into physical stuff, anyway, so physical humor would definitely be on their list! :-)

I remember one where they were plumbers or something, but instead of Curly the third was Shemp.

IMHO, I prefered Shemp to Curly (and don't even get me started about Curly Joe). Yeah, I watched a lot of the Stooges as a child. That's all WTBS showed after school (now known as the Superstation).

I rented one a few years ago and they didn't seem quite as funny, but, if you get one without the political overtones where they're doing something with a HUGE chance of going fabulously wrong, they can still be pretty hilarious.

And those old political Bugs cartoons are pretty strange too. It usually doesn't even look like Bugs as I know him.

Now, see, I LOVE Warner Brothers cartoons. Cartoons in general are pretty funny, but the same stuff in live action just doesn't translate.

speaking of "odd" and "physical humor"

Mr. Bean seems to follow the same gender demographics as the 3 Stooges..... ick.

I'm not planning on doing this, I just wanted to make sure I gave them a fair chance. And I know that the political overtones were part of the problem as well. It could be I just got some "not so great" episodes and that maybe there's something better out there.

I'll give them another try at some point. My man does find things that I eventually love (like the Trailer Park Boys) so I usually try to give things a fair chance.... usually ; ) It makes it more fun when we can both enjoy something (or at least tolerate).

I don't think I personally know any women who enjoy the Three Stooges. As a kid, I thought it was pretty stupid. My dad used to watch it all the time. I'm not really into slapstick. Maybe it has something to do with the "bullying" overtones. To each his own.
