I found a new favorite marker!

I was playing around with school supplies this week, and made a *happy* discovery! The "Sharpie FLip Chart" markers work fabulously for stamping! The ones I have are bold, so not sure if they come in thinner varieties. The ink stays moist for quite awhile, and the color stays really intense once stamped. They come in the basic rainbow colors (I think it was a 10 pack?) Anyway the bold wouldn't work for detail work, but I love the black instead of my stamppad now... I get a true-black without the ink getting everywhere I don't want it. I think the colors would work well for either solid-color stamps, or multi's that are larger areas of color. I need to go look at Staples for other sizes...

Anyway, just thought I'd pass this along!

Thanks for sharing! I love sharpies but I had never found any that worked well for stamping.

Ha! I can see it now, " Um, excuse me Mr. Yuk, if you are finished with your.. craf...um.. er.... stamping there, can we get on with the program?"

or this... "Ok, who turned in their course review with the stamps all over it? Nice, but we need you to rank us with more than this smiley face and .. is that a dragon?"

or this.... *Mr Yuk to his neighbor* "Psst, are you going to use that piece of paper? *all the while reaching his inky fingers for the stray and as yet unstamped paper* *later* "hey, can you hand me the green, I really need the green now?"

How does the ink react when it gets wet? I was frustrated to find my crayola markers' image blurred when a drop of rain dripped on my logbook. :(

Well, I've only used it on postals so far... but it IS sharpie, so I'd assume it reacts like any other sharpie would.... that probably isn't helpful, is it? sorry!

I didn't try the wet test, let me try it now.

Actually the only thing that happened was the instructor walking in the room while I was closing the marker container on the flip chart stand.

I was missing a purple. :)

I'll get back to you post haste on the water...

Good news and weird news.

The ink dosn't run nearly as much as crayola.

Here's the thing.

When I tested these markers, I did it with a new stamp, one I had neve inked up before. When I just inked up for the water test, I used my sig stamp, whih has been inked up a LOT of times with bright green ink.

The Sharpie flip chart markers seem to act like an emulsifier. It wets the old ink and the old ink will apply to the paper as well. If I use black that's no big deal. But the brown is a sort of hershey's milk chocolate color, and with the green ink from before, it sort of came out looking like baby poop.

Let me say that I carry marvys on the trail and while you do get some bleeding it's nothing like this. If you do decide to use these you'll probably have to make sure you clean the stamp super well.

hmm. This will take some more research.

If you planned it out though, you could get some really interesting and exciting combinations, like:

Gurple
- apply gold water based ink to the stamp and let it dry. Then apply your nefariously won purple and stamp. Voila! Gurple. Brilliant.

Thats a great idea. I may try that, sort of like the textured inks.

I am absolutely brand new to all of this but won't a sharpie color the stamp? I understand that they will be stained but when I hear Sharpie, I think of black ink pen that will never come off.
