Thanks for the warning. GNR was always horrible, IMHO, but new stuff without the talents of Slash has to suck.

I haven't heard the new song yet, but can it possibly be as bad as Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin? I don't know if anything makes my gorge rise as much as that song. Talk about pompous, overdramatic, sentimental crap.

Oh man, just thinking about it makes me cringe. I need something to get this out of my head.

Nah, it's either the "Cake out in the Rain" one, or "Muskrat Love".
Nothing from GnR, even a newly reconstituted GnR (who's in this one anyway?) could possibly be that bad.

yes, but she's talking about her humps, which automatically makes it NOT the worst song ever, at least for most males.

I think we could get a lot of votes for the One eyed purple people eater.

Oh man, I really hate the song Imagine. Or anything by Yoko Ono. I also get the urge to randomly punch people everytime I hear "Ironic" by Alanis Morisette.

"If you like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you'd like making love at midnight
In the dunes on the Cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for
Write to me and escape."

'Nuff said.

Definition of Irony:
Irony is a form of speech in which the real meaning is concealed or contradicted by the words used. Irony involves the perception that things are not what they are said to be or what they seem.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony

Lyrics to Ironic:
An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
Its a black fly in your chardonnay
Its a death row pardon two minutes too late
Isnt it ironic... dont you think?

Chorus:
Its like rain on your wedding day
Its a free ride when youve already paid
Its the good advice that you just didnt take
Who wouldve thought... it figures

Mr. play it safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
Well isnt this nice...
And isnt it ironic... dont you think?

Repeat chorus

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everythings okay and everythings going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everythings gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when youre already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
Its like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
Its meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isnt it ironic... dont you think?
A little too ironic... and yeah I really do think...

Repeat chorus

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

There are eleven instances of Alanis citing "Irony", but only two or two and a half pan out as actual irony.

This has to qualify this song as at least one of the worst, and was compounded by Kevin Smith choosing to tell us she is the form God would choose to take. (Dogma)

I really HATE this song.

Agreed. Yet I have valuable brain RAM dedicated to storing the lyrics of nearly all their songs. Which prevents me from remembering more important things like remembering to buy laundry detergent next time I'm at Targét, or to send lunch money with my first-grader.

*sigh*

And let's not forget "Oh Mickey, you're so fine, you're so fine I blow my mind Hey Mickey!"

Crud. Now I'm stuck with that. Nice going, Gekko!

I've always thought that Alanis could have fixed everything if she'd just named it "Annoying" and replace ironic with that word throughout the lyric. True, it doesn't have quite the same cache, but AT LEAST IT IS CORRECT. :-s

Oh no, if we are going to go with songs sung not by the original artist, my vote definitely goes to William Shatner singing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Of course, with that one, it's not so much horrible as it is hilarious.

Oh, if you like Macarthur Park as the worst, you have GOT to hear it sung by Richard Harris. I adored him in Camelot, and thought he managed the music pretty well, but I was VERY embarrassed to hear him singing Macarthur Park. I felt like, "Hey, if I ever get to the point where I humiliate myself like that, somebody please shoot me." Only with me, it wouldn't be a musical blunder, it would probably be me attempting something like, I don't know, ballet.

Gall-dang it! If you're gonna talk about the worst song ever, the WORST thing you can do is post the %#@$@ lyrics!

Now I'm gonna have that stuck in my head all day... so here's one from Revenge of the Nerds:

"She wore an itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini, that she wore for the first time today."

Do the jitterbug down out Muscrat Land
And they Shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny
And they whirl and they twirl and they tango

Oh no...my vote for worst song ever has to be "Having My Baby" by Paul Anka....everytime I hear those lyrics, it makes my skin crawl. "having my baby.....what a wonderful way to say how much ya love me". " I feel it growing...deep inside"...When a local rapper who has 4 kids by 3 different teenage moms started using it at one of his concerts, well.....nevermind.

My second least favorite song? "Muskrat Love"

Most misunderstood song? That "I left my cake out in the rain" one. Still think the songwriter was tripping on that one.
