well, we are here in Southern California at perhaps for up to several couple of weeks. We would love to do an exchange..do hope to get to the gathering ,though we have to be home just after it, so we shall see.
So..'IF' you happen to see us going down the road flag us down!!
ha ha, how easy is that??
Pretty easy,
if you see a white Honda Odyssey van with double rocket boxes on top and BC plates (British Columbia...not Baja california) The double rocket boxes on top are a give away though.
Honk! wave and we can exchange. Or for a more proper meeting email me and we can set it up. Home base is Palm Springs.

Had fun driving down. Finally replaced the stamp for On The Road Again, it is now a different image as I did not keep a copy of the image, and well, it wasn't too good a carving anyways.

tried a couple of boxes on the way down too.
Love this California weather and the people are wonderful!!
see you

So what areas are you going to be in? Any possibility of hitting Kernville?

as far as we know we are in Palm Springs for most of it, with a trip to Disneyland. Perhaps into Mecca to painted canyons and up to Idyllwild. Not sure offhand where Kernville is.

Any recommendations for concentrated areas of letteboxes a family with two kids can go in Southern California.

thanks

It is the center of the known universe, at least for white water boaters.

We are 3/1/2 hrs north of LA and if you were to draw a line between Ridgecrest and Bakersfield we would be about 1/2 between and slightly north. This would be a way out of the area you would be concentrating in....but there are a bunch of letterboxes to be had.

Will you be hitting the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa area?

We've quite a few boxes here for you to hunt and one will bring you pretty close to our front door?

That's what I was wondering too. We have passes, I could be persuaded to go the Disneyland :-)

I have a roommate who works there and could get me in for free. Letterboxing day in Disneyland!

In all seriousness, I wouldn't be able to take off of work (I assume you're going on a weekday-- and if you're not, I recommend it) to go to Disneyland, but it's not far from where I live, so I could do a meetup somewhere nearby....

There are so many new boxes in this area! Some of my favorites are Extinct (really fun clues that give you that "aha!" moment) and Down by the Bay (a nice walk along Upper Newport Bay-- a hike, but nothing kids shouldn't be able to handle). The Balboa area where the Extinct boxes are can be fun just to explore, too-- lots of little shops and such.

Yes, and as tdyans so graciously pointed out, there are MANY boxes in our area. Aside from the ones she mentioned, naturally, we would invite you to find all of ours (ReidlingTrinity) AND hers, which she failed to mention, especially 'Get LOST' and a few others like ZOT! which are in surrounding cities:)

We have planted five boxes within a 5 minute walking radius of one another in our neighborhood (Newport Shores, NB) (Travelers Among Us, For Lovers, and Local Motion). In Costa Mesa, just up the hill, there are about 9 boxes all within a 5 minute drive of one another (The Gully-4 boxes, 3 Sisters-box 2 & 3, Bonjour-a very special box, Fight Club, and Up,Up and Away).

There is a nice 5 box series in Huntington Beach at the Central Park, it takes about 2 hours to find them, but they are worth it. There's also the 4 Huntington Beach Micros along the boardwalk... we have enough in our immediate area to provide you with three or four + days of serious hunting.

What kind of boxes do you like to hunt out? Ones with clear clues that get you to the box? Ones that have clues you have to decode to find the box? Or ones that have fuzzy clues and send you on a wild goose chase, some which will get you to the box eventually but after a bit of time and frustration, lol? Ones that are quick and fast, or ones that you will have to spend some time at hiking?

Man, seeing you list them all out-- so many boxes to find, so little time! I just found my 100th box this past weekend. A few months ago, I would not have thought it possible to hit that milestone before my first letterboxing anniversary (March 3rd). There just weren't enough boxes close by and new ones were added only infrequently. But there's just been such an explosion in this area recently; now a week hardly goes by that a new box doesn't show up in my saved search. It's great!

The only downside is that you guys have had me so busy finding boxes that I haven't hidden any new ones in a while, and I want to get back to that. I've got at least a dozen sitting at home waiting for me to have the time (and the hiking partner for some of them), including a special one that'll be just to thank all the planters whose boxes I've gotten to enjoy. :)

Tdyans (still waiting for that "aha" moment on "Bonjour")

Now maybe you will have to make the trek to Kernville and gobble up the 50+ boxes in the area.

Now you guys have so many suggestions. Hmm, to plan out which would work best. Unfortunately with the two kids and them really preferring something a bit easier (never mind hubby) we will have to see.
You are all so wonderful!
I need to reread these messages, find a map and figure it out from there...if we are venturing out that way.
Thanks tydans, Don anbd Gwen and reidling trinity :)
