A story to share

I just had to share this story! Even while it was happening to me, I found it hilarious!
A co-worker of mine bought a new washer and dryer last week, she had an older set that still worked but didn't want to tempt fate. So she offered the old set to me, knowing I didn't have one and wasn't going to be able to afford one for a while as well. She was so worried that they'd break right away on me and really downplayed them, but they're in great shape.

We got them in the house the other day and had been letting them thaw out. Decided to hook them up last night. My man hooked up the drain hose and I didn't double check his work (I was double checking the water hoses b/c I knew he forgot to put the rubber rings in b/c they were in my purse).
Yay, it all works! So I put a load in and we go upstairs. I check on it about 10 minutes later, everything's fine. About 20 minutes later it's still going so I go to check on it... yeah, there's a flood in my basement! The drain hose wasn't tightened and it was pushed off by the force of the water! So he's flipping out and I'm just like, get a bucket, we can fix this!

We get it all fixed and finish the load (waiting right next to the machine). Put it in the dryer and that won't turn on. At this point my man is talking gibberish, sweating and turning red. We follow the electric wires to see where they go to the fuse box, whatnot.... it's very strange. So I find this "extra circuit breaker" next to the one for the stove and it's off. This is after like 20 minutes of being ornery... I'm like, let's turn it on and see what happens. Yeah, it worked and now it all works.

What an adventure, but I swear, it's all fun! Hilarious and frustrating at the same time, but now I don't have to go to the laundromat!!! 4 years of laundromat trips, all done with it!!!!

Thank heavens for small miracles.

I have a washer/dryer myself that I have been trying to sell for months. Yeah, so they are 10 yrs old. But they were only used for about a total of 3 yrs because all the moving hubby and I did, there was already a w/d everywhere we ended up. We only used mine, when the rental's ones were out of service.

Any takers for a w/d??

Congratulations! Uncle Sam bought me a new set last year after we moved. I can fully sympathize with no longer lugging laundry around. In a very short time, you'll be complaining about going all the way to the basement to do the laundry. LOL!!! Congrats again and enjoy!

hehehe, if it weren't for my supervision skills, I might be married to Tim Taylor's clone.

We are hoping to build a house in the next 10 months. One of the floorplan options is to have the W/D upstairs. I think that is just awesome, except for car washing towels and the occasional dish towel, how much laundry does the living room, kitchen and garage really create??

My brother's w/d are right off his bedroom on the 2nd floor. I'm so jealous - although I do get a bit of exercize going up and down the stairs. I can't complain, but sometimes I still do.

That's awesome! It is really a blessing not having to make those trips. When we got married, I was lugging all of the laundry elsewhere too. Then one day in a conversation with my Mom I mentioned in passing that I didn't want to even think about what it would be like having to do our laundry plus all of the washing that a baby creates at the laundromat. I knew from teaching at a preschool that the amount of laundry that a baby makes is indirectly proportional to its size. The next thing I knew, a brand new washer and dryer were being delivered to our house!
She claims that it had nothing to do with removing any obstacles from the path to Grandchildren, but I suspect otherwise! ;)
Happy washing!

Yeah, right. And pigs will fly next! LOL

Congrats to Moonduck on the new additions to the family. Now you've also learned the best lesson of home ownership; if something electrical doesn't work, check the circuit board first! ;-) Now if my husband would figure that out...

One of the floorplan options is to have the W/D upstairs.

Go for it! Our first house had the w/d upstairs and it was WONDERFUL. We moved 9 years ago into our current house and I REALLY miss the w/d upstairs. Especially with my knee trouble lately, it's a major PAIN to carry heavy baskets up and down the steps. Half the time, I leave the baskets and ask for my big, strong hubby to do the honors. So, I would recommend you get it upstairs. You'll LOVE it!
