This was posted on the Great Lakes Yahoo group sometime last week. I thought you might be inspired by it.

Quote Hey group, this one is for your eyes only! I will not be posting the
clues for this letterbox on any website. I will ONLY provide them to
you, dear letterboxers.

This letterbox can be found somewhere on my driveway, underneath the
snow that is now falling.

To find it you must shovel, starting at the street and work your way
back to my garage.

WARNING!! This is a time sensitive box that will only be there for 10
hours. So, you must quickly make your way to my home and search your
heart out BEFORE I go to work in the morning.

~Hart x6

P.S. This will be the first in a series of letterboxes -- a new one
will be hidden EVERY time it snows. Enjoy the hunt!!

Couple 3 years ago, the City dump pile of snow didn't leave us until AUGUST 8th. We had snow on the ground until AUGUST 8th. Looks like a repeat :(

Quote My husband is banned from any future shoveling, as last time he did any, he had a heart attack.

The Highlander is banned from shoveling because he has two herniated discs in his neck and I am banned from shoveling because I have anal myopia (just don't see my arse doin' it right now!).

I'll shovel eventually, but we live at the end of a dead end street. Aside from ourselves, there's really no one to shovel FOR! (shrug)

Yep, men come up with the most creative ways of getting out of having to shovel. *shaking head* If it's work, they'll find a way out of it. ;o)

You guys need to get a really cool Craftsman 24 inch snowblower! My mom and dad got me one a few years ago for Christmas..... It is self propelled both forward AND backwards! And since you have a fairly flat driveway, it would be even easier! :-)

Back when Colorado was getting slammed by snow I TOLD you here on AQ to be careful what you ask for......in the Snow Department...!!!

Having shoveled PLENTY, I'm still REALLY glad she's not in Western NY right now!. It's what to do with your time after the shoveling that drove me around the bend. (But then it can be a short trip for us April Fools..)

I CAN tell you: My apartment is spotless, I have 20+ 'boxes ready to go when spring finally ...erm springs, created my first virutual, have eaten better than I have in years (once I could buy basic supplies), sewed 3 complete jackets, my files (and recipes) are organized, and my taxes are done....I'm well into my new job hunt. And my cats look at me funny.

Good luck with being snowbound. My humblest condolences and sympathy! I SO feel for you! Long as your untilities stay on....especially the internet...it COULD be worse!

Wink- are you still there?!
NPR just said you guys hit the 9 feet of snow mark in the past week with a possible 2 to 4 more this weekend.
Hope your roof's holding up. Think about those wonderful summer days on First Encounter beach :-)

Good luck!

Take care, Orion

Actually I went away for the weekend. YES, I snuck out under the "State of Emergency" Illeagally, but..... I just couldn't take it any more. I left Friday AM, got back an hour or so ago. We are over 100 inches. Unofficially a person down the road, that observes for the Nat'l Weather Ag., recorded 126 inches in her back yard. It has slowed, but not finished. We have maybe one more day left (Mon), and we'll be DONE for a spell. We have already cut into our vacations for snow days used. Roof is holding up, but my back isn't :( We are headed that way (Cape) in April for a loooooooooong weekend. My wife and I were headed that way in January to "Chill" and meet up with CC Letterboxer (amongst others), but an ill parent kept me from doing so. We were and MAY still sneak up there for a short weekend in March, but it is not looking good. April is the call as of now. Good gosh I can't to hit the tidal flats. Just to play :) No snow, warm water, no snow, good eats, no snow, great people, no snow, baseball, no snow, sun and most importantly.....no snow.
a little practice first! (WAS Re: Help Shovel?)

so it seems that for any of us coming out to NY for the gathering saturday, may have to deal with a little bit of our own snow first. now before it sounds like i am complaining about the snow, we haven't seen really any snow in the area for the past 3 years. yes you guys obviously have more snow than us, but on record, the snow belt recieves on average, 180 inches a year. so you guys are a bit used to the snow, just not all in 1 week! our backs may be a bit rusty with the lack of snow we have gotten lately. but i do assure you, i will be out there with my shovel. if my back hurts or not.

the blizzard of valentine's day 2007?
we will see!

Good for you!
A long weekend in April with the Cape Cod boxers sounds like the andidote for the blasted lake effect!
I have the low tide at First Encounter as my screen saver. It cheers me up every time I see it. Be sure to visit my Beach plum LB :-)

Thinking warm thoughts for a snowbound WINK!

Take care, Orion

I'm wishing with you Music Woman! What's that happy snow dance thing we're supposed to do? Jammies inside out and backwards, right? It's hard to zip them all the way up when you wear them this way! LOL! Hopefully Wednesday!

The tradition that's been adopted here - besides the pajamas, of course - is spoons in the freezer and oranges under the pillows. We'll see if it works for tomorrow...

Well, Music Woman, it looks as though your wishes will be fullfilled tomorrow!! I just hope I don't lose my power or internet through all of it.

From the WFSB website:
Wednesday: Snow mixing with or changing to sleet, freezing rain, and rain after an accumulation of 3-6 inches inland and 2-4 inches near the shore. Becoming windy. Low: 21. High: 32. (mid 30s shoreline). A change back to all snow by Wednesday evening with as much as a foot + of snow in Litchfield County, 8-10" elsewhere except the shoreline where lower amounts are expected. Considerable blowing and drifting is possible.

The part that I don't care for is the changing over to sleet, freezing rain and rain in the middle of all the snow. Makes shoveling quite a pain in the back! Shoveling the fluffy stuff is not so bad, but when it gets weighed down with the rain it makes it miserable to shovel.

Yea, and the New Britain school district has ALREADY cancelled school for tomorrow. Too bad that I don't work in that school district tomorrow..... (I was there today and heard the cancellation over the afternoon announcements). However, if the Vernon school district would like to give me a days notice, that wouldn't be all bad!
