Quote I was wondering if there's a way to have an invite feature to AQ.

I'm always surprised when I get this particular request. I can't say I get the request that often, but whenever I find a new website I think one of my friends might be interested in, I usually send an e-mail myself directly to them. Which is why I find it so strange that people actually like features such as this. =)

But THAT'S OKAY! Nothing wrong with people being different from me. ;o)

The first time someone asked about having this particular feature--it was Amanda who told me that her dad wanted to send a link to Julie, one of his other daughters. This was when AQ was up for less than a week and practically nobody had ever heard of AQ. (In fact, it hadn't even been called "AQ" yet--I remember a few weeks after the site was up someone referring to AQ and thinking, "What is that short for?" for about five minutes before I connected all the dots!)

Anyhow, her dad wanted to send a link to Amanda's sister and told Amanda that, who then told me that. It was never a priority, though. Always had much more interesting things to work on.

I was going to spend today writing my book but figured I could set that aside for another day and work on this feature. In theory, it's not really all that hard to implement. Just needed to set aside time to do it. You can check it out at http://www.atlasquest.com/toolbox/tellafriend/

Kick the tires and let me know if that works for you or if you'd like more or less information in the e-mail. (You can use your own e-mail address in the list of friends so you'll get an e-mail too.) AQ will even automatically fill in the name and e-mail address you have registered with AQ if you're logged in to make filling out the form even quicker! =)

Well, I sent an invitation to myself so I could see what it said. Looks good! Have you considered displaying the outgoing AQ message on the form page so that people know what they're sending their friends without having to send it to themselves first? I wouldn't know whether to add anything in the "optional message" section unless I had seen what the automatic message was first.

I thought it was very cool how AQ filled in my real name automatically so my "friend" would know who the heck had sent me the invitation.

Me too, but this time I've sent the link twice, and they still haven't signed up! So, I am hoping an email from the site might be more convincing.

I tried the form, and I like it. Thanks so much for adding this great feature! That was quick!

Of course, but I was feeling lazy. Just knew someone would call me on it. ;o)

I've gone ahead and added a preview button.

If someone didn't have your post with the link, where would he or she go to do this? I don't see it on the regular forms page. I think I checked the site map, too. Quicker way?

Thanks,
MC

I did add it to the site map about an hour ago. It can also be found as one of the links under "About Letterboxing" (under the "Home" menubar option).
