I am NOT in shape. At all. One of the things I love best about boxing is that it's gotten my ample tushy off the couch and exercising!!!!

Today we Gryffindors took off to find a series of 4 boxes. I had no idea what I was in for.

1st box.... no problem, although part of the walk was along a steep cliff that made us speak sharply to 8 year old and 10 year old Gryffindors about staying away from the edge.

2nd box... no sign of it.

3rd box... HOLY CRAP!!!! First we had to scale 30 feet down a cliff on a steep, nasty trail. (Only 10 year old Gryffindor and I did this, Daddy and 8 year old stayed on the main trail.) Then she and I crossed a beach and stood at the base of a 40 foot (at least) metal ladder that went STRAIGHT UP the side of a cliff. Apparently this is used by the park people (or Coast Guard to maintain the lighthouse on the rock formation above us. "No way," I said. "No way, no how." Then ensued a long back and forth conversation between us where she begged and I repeated my earlier statement.

She won.

All the way up this ladder I was thinking, "I cannot believe we're doing this!!!!" But we did and lived. Talk about scary though!

4th box... uneventful. Thank goodness.

Well, we'll probably get some heckling for this but we found the box. It was right where it was supposed to be, and had a logbook, but the stamp was missing. We stamped in anyway, and we're counting it as a find. I know that's been up for debate before... but in this case, I'm counting it!

I would count it too. Any box that would require me (and my fear of heights) to climb a 40-ft. ladder is a find, even if I had to stamp my sig stamp on empty tupperware.

Were the boxes marked as extreme?

OMG--I know exactly which series you're talking about and I didn't even have to look at the boxes' names to see which ones you went hunting for. We went looking for that series about 1-1/2 years ago. I was alone with a 6- and a 3-year old boxing around the neighboring island. It happened to be an extreme low tide in August but that was only the second time after over 1,000 finds where I decided to forgo a box for safety reasons because I wasn't sure how to ensure both the kids would be safe on the various parts of the 'extreme' requirements of that particular box without another adult in tow to help care for the children. EXTREME, EXTREME, EXTREME!!! I was a little concerned about the 'liability' that might be involved with a box like that in today's current litigious-happy society having heard about so many folks who'd lost their lives simply hiking and taking photographs around that region over the 6 years we'd lived in the area. Too bad the stamp was missing--knowing what you went through to find it that one would be well earned!!! It's one of our most favorite spots on this planet (and we've covered alot of territory on this planet)!!!

Hee hee hee!!!!

These are LBNA boxes, not listed here at AQ. I believe that the placer said that the hike was "challenging" in spots.

:O

Excellent call. There's no way I'd take a 3-year-old (or even my 8-year-old, for that matter) up that ladder. I don't even think a 39 1/2 (not 40 for 5 more months, thankyouverymuch) -year-old was very smart in going up!!!

I agree with you. I've found at least two boxes in my day where the stamp was missing. I still stamped in and counted it as a find. After all, I did *find* it. Not my fault someone walked off with the stamp. I took a photo of the image with my digital camera and taped it into my logbook. ;)

I know that there are various schools of thought on this, and that's fine by me. But I'l count those two as finds if I want to. :) It's my party. ;)

Oh, I *really* want to plant some extreme boxes! I'm fantasizing about a canoe trip series here in CFL. Yeah, it's been done, I know, but I think there should be more. :-} Mwahahaaaaa!
