the beginning and the end of my day!

so, today i had decided to go out and box after holding out for the past 3 weeks due to the cold weather in the northeast. i had 5 boxes on my list to find. i always joke around about others sneaking boxes into my town without me knowing, so i had to go looking for this box right away. it would only be right, if i found it first.

so i head out to find this box, and i knew where it was because the children and i used to go sledding there. i knew i couldn't bring them, because they would ask to go sledding, since we hadn't gone in the past year or so. anyhow, i am out looking for the box. the clues talk about sledding down a hill and then climbing it only to follow the trail at the top, to the left a ways. i continued as it told me, passed the next sledding trail as it told me, and found the sledding trail to head down.

now looking at the trail down to the bottom, it looked as if i could walk down. one step to the side of the trail, and i was on my rear. i couldn't stop even if i wanted to. all the way to the bottom, collecting snow up my shirt and all over my pants. a little snow, i thought, whatever. the clues stated to look for the big tree at the far end of the clearing. the box will be there. so i look around to both ends of the clearing, and see no big tree. i began to look anyway, only to not find the box.

so, i decided that i would give up on this box and when i get home later, ask for maybe a better clue as to what the tree looked like. i climb the hill, far beside the sledding part, get to the top, and decide to read the clues one more time. looked at the area from the top of the sledding hill and still saw no big tree. i had given up finally, and started heading for my car. only to round the bend and find a police car parked across from my car.

i keep walking to my car and the police officer comes out of his car and asks me nicely what it is i was doing. after about 5 minutes of explaining, he got it. he had explained to me the this was private property and there should be no one on this land without permission. and he said seeing the owner lives somewhere across the country, permission was unlikely. he took my liscence and scanned it, 5 minutes later, he let me head on my way. only one problem.

i lost my keys. so he took off as i was looking for them, he didn't know they were missing. he drove out of view and i started heading back to the sledding hills. i ckeck the area at the top and noticed they were halfway down the sledding hill i slide down. and no, there was no way of getting my keys without going down the way i did the first time. so hoping the police officer didn't come back to see if i had left, i hurried back up the hill and to my car with no more problems. it was at that point, i said the day was over. it was only noon time then, and i was pooped!

i think i'm going to stick to carving right now, until the snow and ice melts. i didn't have any problems boxing in the winter last year. oh well. there is always a first for everything i guess!
