GOOD news for SC state parks!

I have some really terrific news to share with everyone that could seriously revolutionize the way we box in this area!

I received an email from someone at Lake Greenwood, my local state park. They had stumbled over one of my box while patrolling last week and were VERY enthusiastic! He explained that new regulations are actually embracing geocaches and other related activities. There are some guidelines but no fees-- the emphasis is on cooperating WITH the Rangers so that they know where they items are left and approve of their placement. This is a 'new wind' and I'm very excited. I explained to him that I'd seen the guidelines for caches, but nothing for boxes, and that I was not only willing but ANXIOUS to sign the required waiver and be in compliance so that our boxes can be there 'legally'.

This young man is having LOTS of fun exploring the new hobby. We've already talked several times, he's created an AQ account for himself, and actually asked me not to tell him where the rest of my boxes are yet....he wants to find them! We'll be meeting this week to discuss possible boxes in cooperation with each other in a new program for the park. I couldn't be happier. This could be a wonderful thing for our hobby! Hopefully we'll see him posting here eventually.

He asked me to encourage everyone in SC to approach your local state park rangers and ask to speak to the Park Manager. Explain what you'd like to do and 'invite them in' to your passion about boxing. He feels that many of them will do what my local park here is once they understand-- embracing it as a new, responsible idea to encourage visitors. I pledged to him that my goal is ALWAYS enjoyment without environmental impact, and to that I will always hold solid as most of us do. It's a good thing for his park, his visitors, and our hobby.

A new wind is blowing in SC! Let's see how far we can encourage it within out state parks. The possibilities for boxes in cooperation with each other are ENDLESS. :-)

woohoo!!! i did notice the SCSP letterboxer that had logged one of your plants there. I was a little worried because the previous three hunters came up with attempts, then out of the blue it's found by a "state park" but i'm thrilled to hear this good news!

maybe NC wont be far behind the trend!!!!!

;-D
