I royally embarassed myself several times at MoWizLiz's place. After having been gently teased about how I COULD have missed the peanut butter jar stamp, I became paranoid. I started opening the oddest things, attempting to sniff out stamps. She has the most lovely candy jar that looks just like a postcard, but it's not a letterbox ..and her tv remote? it's a tv remote. My newly acquired fear of chocolate boxes originated in her kitchen. That WAS a letterbox, sorta. I became suspcious of the package of cigarettes when I realized..40+ ppl and I hadn't seen ANYONE light up...

On the other hand, I thought I was being helpful when I rescued the tin of 'mints' from the puddle of water on the sinktop and tucked them out of sight for safe-keeping. Arg. I also managed to miss the legitimate boxes in the yard, and accidentally logged into what was supposed to have been a box waiting to be planted locally.

Btw, the toliet paper roll? Also not a letterbox.

Ahhhhhh! That is too funny!
I can just picture it!

I just may have to steal that idea for the Great Lakes gathering. It would be funny to see how many people brave the porta-potty just to get a stamp.

Oh, I can tell you, since we have BTDT already in NC (thanks to Dixie and Mojo - all I supplied was the 70 year old "portajohn") - they ALL will!!!

Actually, if people see you rummaging in their belongings at a gather, their first thought is most likely to be "cootie-planting"

<<But somehow I don't picture any gathering of letterboxers, no matter how large, as being Formal. >>

I agree - my first thought was "formal?? Letterboxers? Formal???" We've been to a bunch of gatherings, none of which we could label as formal! :0)

so far it has been so crazy with doing exchanges, etc. that we haven't had *time* to do those extra boxes!

ah ha...
except those that make their children brave "the elements" and go in for them ;)
the rule WAS that the boxer had to go in...have a seat in the outhouse and stamp in...
I think there were some cheaters LOL

Quote Also, they strike me as the courteous type to know to not go digging in purses.

After re-reading my original post, it didn't sound quite the way I meant it! ;P I wasn't thinking purses and bags, but maybe coolers, potluck dishes/accessories and such, and the normal-but-possibly-out-of-place things like toilet paper, shampoo bottle, tin of catfood, lego container, etc. I do NOT make it a habit to rummage through others' purses or bags! I do have a few shreds of decorum!

Thanks for all the helpful posts! :)

Would that be the sink in the bathroom, Ish? ;)

TG *who knows nothing about how the mint tin got onto the bathroom counter* *shaking head* *nope, nothing at all*

PS Thank you to wassamatta u for putting Ish's post in his blog - otherwise I would have missed it! :)

Hey, now! Why are we feeling the need to call people out on this particular issue? First of all, there was no sign on that outhouse for occupancy. Secondly, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a 2-seater, so our boxing "team" couldn't both sit on the seat and stamp in. And third, I went and put it back because CDQ slipped on the bridge (and who puts a bridge to an outhouse, I want to know) coming out with the roll and refused to go back to return it.

But imagine getting to it in the middle of the night (or any time for that matter!) with NO bridge.......

LOL!

Mama Fox - going to go ask father-in-law where the previous outhouse was and did the WPA build the bridge...... I'll get to the *bottom* of this...........

I missed a bunch of stamps at the BBQ, but I was paranoid to be cootied to death. I tried to hide my little canvas bag from Andrew, but somehow one managed to slip in Friday night (Pokinatcha - very cute). I was (at least I think was) cootie-free coming home. Jenco98 has much more ink to show for the weekend.

To those who are feeling uneasy about planting and/or hunting for letterboxes "in plain sight" in someone's home, may I suggest placing signs on off-limits areas that read ... This is a Geocache ... or This is Not A Letterbox, to warn others in advance?

And to those who didn't quite figure out my PT's ... keep your eyes open at future gatherings. There were clues in my car and on the canvas bag I was toting with my stash.

Now see, that would be an even bigger problem. As I recall my great-grandparents farm layout, their outhouse was on the same side of the creek as the house. Downhill from the house of course, but I was always a little concerned about its proximity to the springhouse. LOL But as to getting up in the middle of the night... that's what the slopjar was for...
