New stock investing web site
Board: Money and Investing

My company has launched a new web site focused on stock investing. It's called StockCentral and it's available at http://www.stockcentral.com. The site is currently in a public beta, which means that people can sign up now for a completely free one-year subscription (as they say, for a limited time only) just by visiting the site. (We expect the annual subscription to be in the $33 to $39 range once the site goes public.)

The web site features message boards (especially by ticker symbol), online education workshops held by various pundits, a rich historical fundamental data archive for any public company, and an innovative one-click Instant Stock Analysis tool called Take Stock. Enter any ticker symbol and the tool instantly evaluates the long-term potential of investing in that stock. We're going to be adding a stock screener soon, as well as some other analysis tools. The site also works with our flagship desktop stock analysis program, Investor's Toolkit 5 for Windows, seamlessly downloading data from the web site into the program.

Anyhow, sorry to sound like a sales rep, but I'm excited about bringing my vision of community-enabled investing to the Web with this new site, and thought I'd invite you all to take a look if you're interested in investment clubs and long-term stock investing.

So which parts of the website did you work on or contribute towards? =)

Which stocks are your top picks at the moment? Why?

The web site says that you have to sign up by December 2006. Did we miss it?

I signed up, but it never asked me for any credit card information or anything, so it should be okay. =)

The entire site is really a result of my vision (and you can learn more about it on the Manifesto page on the site!). I'm the President of the company, so the engineers and marketing staff and community moderators all report to me.

Right now, we're nearing the end of our "Top 25 Stock Picks for 2007 (and Beyond!)" workshop, where 5 pundits (actually, 4 pundits and 1 amateur from the community -- he calls it "David vs. the Goliaths") are each picking 5 stocks. 1 stock is introduced each weekday for the first 5 weeks of January, and we'll track the portfolios over the next year and longer to see whose picks work out the best (starting out with $1,000 of each stock as of the 12/31/06 market price). I'm one of the contestants, and I decided to focus on small company stocks -- perhaps a riskier segment of the market but with a somewhat greater upside that helps to compensate for the additional risk.

So far, my picks have been:
American Medical Systems Hldgs. AMMD
CRA International, Inc. CRAI
PetMed Express, Inc. PETS
TALX Corporation TALX
The company that people are most likely to know is PetMed, which does business as 1-800-PetMeds and advertises on TV with commercials starring Betty White. People probably won't admit that they know American Medical, since they are a leading maker of penile implants and other technologies for "pelvic health" afflictions. The rest are B2B or medical companies.

My last pick will be revealed on Friday, February 2nd....

As of today, my picks are up 1.5% since 1/1/07. On an annualized basis, that's not too shabby, though of course it's way to draw any conclusions since these stocks were all chosen as long-term, buy-and-hold investments.

We extended the "one year free" offer, though not for long now....

I'm the most exalted grand high pundit of them all! And I've got the hat to prove it!
